Nasal salt rinse..

Does anyone do this?, are there any benefits?, and how do you make up the salt solution?. I have heard it can be quite a horrible experience if you get the mixture wrong.

I use the Neilmed Nasal rinse solutions; works well. Also have some nasal saline sprays that I use before gym sessions, helps keep the airways clean.

My Doc advised me to do this after suffering with headaches following a cold, and I do it now each time I get a cold to help clear sinuses. The NeilMed kit is the one I use, and it's easy to do.

It's actually not at all unpleasant as long as you use the salt sachets provided, but using plain water hurts (as I learnt to my cost).

ETA - you simply pour the powder from the sachets provided into warm tap water to make up the solution. Shake the bottle and away you go. Dead simple.

I had post nasal drip , constant stream down my throat for a couple of months after a nasty virus and did this

I just got a mug of boiled water, added a teaspoon of salt and snorted it up a nostril at a time a few times and then out the other nostirl

I then did another mug and gargled it.

Certainly cleared everything out for sure

Dont use too much salt would be my tip

Yes, the saline solution will cleanse the inside of your nose

Most chemists, supermarkets etc sell the sprays. Make sure you keep the nozzle clean.

I use the Neilmed stuff as well after a polyp removal operation. The hospital provided a recipe for DIY and it stings, that was sugar, salt and bicarb of soda. The Neil med stuff does not sting. Got the Nailed stuff from boots, over the counter. They sell refills as well.

I use boiled water, not sure that makes any difference but certainly make sure it is cool enough first!

Bought one of the cans as I was waking up in the morning everyday unable to breathe
Didn't have a cold as I was fine during the day
But sorted it right out so it's always worth ago

The cans aren't cheap at £7-8 but easy ready to go

Do not use tap water....unless you have boiled it first (and let it cool obviously).

Distilled or sterile water is better.

I use sterile physiological solution in little single dose containers. It's designed for babies but works perfectly for adults. Cost is around €1.80 for 30 doses. This is in France Btw but you can get it on Francophone websites. I couldn't believe the cost of this stuff when I visited the UK and tried to get some from Boots. I think it was £14 for a box of single use containers and £10 for a small spray can. See here:

Got one of those Rhino things to do this as I have post nasal drip that is quite bad and I can cough up quite amazing snot balls.

I havent used it in months as its gone missing and at $40, I will be pissed if I pay out and then find it the next day.
