After encountering pop ups about funding for solar panels, I thought I'd take a look, for the sport of an idle few minutes.

'Better than free' it trumpeted so I thought, 'yeah, right'. So I did the form and started getting e-mails as I expected.
Today, I received a number of phone calls - not one got past my Truecall machine.
I'd already smelled a rodent but called the (non-freecall) number that came in a text later. here's the gist...

Yes, funding is available in your area, provided you own your house and don't have a CCJ or the like.
Yes, you have a SW facing bit of roof.
Yes, we come put and nail some old radiators in glass boxes to your roof. (many a true word in jest).
You'll save a few bob on your energy bills (where does the gas come from then?})
You can then sell a few milliamps to the government at the going rate.
The battery pack is optional.
You have to pay a small monthly subscription (Bingo).

The next bit concerned a visit by a 'surveyor'.
"Will I be able to get rid of him afterwards?" I queried.
"Oh, he won't set up camp in your living room." Came the reply. Damn right, I thought, he ain't coming in.
"He'll give you the facts and figures."

The outcome was that I can supply the drawings I did for planning permission, complete and to scale,
with areas, roof pitches etc. But they won't give me anything in writing.

So, what happens if your 'experts' fk up my 142-year old house's roof, its wiring, etc.
OK, says .I "Either you give me what I want in writing (i.e. Ts & Cs, insurance cover, etc, etc, costs
(installation, 'options' and post-install maintenenace) Or I say goodbye now.
"Thank you for your time ." Click.

This was as expected and the relevant numbers and mail addresses have gone on my blocked list.

I'm not at all bothered so if the above prevents anyone else from wasting their time...you're welcome wink

Conventional solar panels heat water, I assume that's why you reference old radiators. They don't generate electricity, that's photovoltaics

Just setting the scene smile I understand they're photovoltaics. How else could I sell the power?

Didn't they lower the rate for the energy payments to those that sold energy to the grid so that it takes 25yrs to pay for install .
