I am posting this in case it is useful for other members. I have owned a Mk 6 Golf 1.4 TSI 59 plate, 21000 miles, since new. Yesterday I noticed a smell of petrol in the cabin and in the engine compartment. The cause was broken hosing between the end of the metal fuel pipe and the turbo carburetor. This hosing sits tight between the top of the engine and the underside of the bonnet and it was probably broken by the movement of the engine. The clips used to secure the hosing were difficult to remove, probably reflecting the paring down of costs in large scale manufacture. They were replaced by jubilee clips.
