Just looking for some advice. I ordered a wooden garden gate online 8 weeks ago , it has been delivered today however it is damaged.
I have spoken to the supplier but they are saying because i didnt check it for damage while the driver was still there the courier wont compensate them.
They have now asked me how i'd like it resolved which ive replied i'd like an undamaged gate.
Sadly i paid on a debit card for this. Is there anything i can do ?

Thanks

Its up to the supplier to rectify, is the damage fixable ?

Don't kick up to much of a fuss on here - it may cause a fence

Wife ordered a pile of shyte from Oakfurnitureland and my heart sank. Of course it all arrived in shards! Delivery guys were out of there in seconds saying that any damage is nothing to do with them. OFL had to refund within 14 days under the new version of the Distance Selling regs - name changed now.

Well the quality looks reasonable and that damage could be attended too.
Ask for some money off, if there not forthcoming tell them you will return for refund / rectification
at their cost.

One question why order a garden gate in softwood ? plenty of good quality hardwood options.

Just sand it down and you will hardly notice, for an exterior fairly rustic gate it isn't really of much consequence.

Presumably you are applying some paint or other finish, any tiny dimple left could then be filled but it isn't worth it.

How was it packaged for delivery, and was the packaging damaged?

If so, why sign for it without noting that...?

Some wood filler before painting / staining, and you won't even know that the damage was there.

Must've been damaged outside the packaging, then.

Either before it was wrapped and despatched...

You'd be surprised how common this it. packer damages it, own up and get bking or send out and blame courier if customer complains.

In a years time that gate will look worn out anyway, so I vote just fit & forget. It's not very bad damage.

Funny we ordered a sideboard from the same retailer. On unpacking there was a large bit of damage which corresponded with a similar bit of damage on the packaging. Photos were sent, item replaced and old one taken away. Not too much of a problem but wished I'd been home to at least open the top of the packaging before the delivery guys went away

What is the point in ordering a gate online??

There must be many suppliers locally that could have made it.
