Central London => don't take the car.

Parking is a nightmare in Central London. Suggest use public transport.
Train stations nearby.

The section from the O2 to the Barrier isn't very far. Roughly mile and half I would guess

Is it worth you coming all that way for a bikie ride that short?

I ran the section from Greenwich to the Thanmwa Barrier at the weekend and a couple of things to note
1) there is a diversion for about a mile around the black wall tunnel which is kn pavement but not on the Thames
2) parking is very limited. Most streets are resident of restricted parking.
3) that part is very short

I would look T parking on Bugsby Way which is close to the barrier as I think it has fewer restrictions and ride towards Greenwich. Then if feeling fit, go through the Greenwich foot tunnel for. Great view looking back. Take a picnic to Greenwich park and then cycle back. Parking will be an issue.

I cycled O2 to Tower Bridge with my son. It's not far but great views. I would go that way rather than the (bleak) Thames Barrier.

And don't drive

If you are quite a way from the river and feel that you have to take a car, try parking around Charlton and then cycling up river to Tower Bridge. A few bleak bits but mostly OK. Quite easy to park in Charlton as well, especially on a weekend (but check the football fixtures if going during the season).

If you really must drive there's a multistorey car park just up from Tower Bridge on Mansell Street. There are usually plenty of spaces and it's ideally located for the section from Tower Bridge over to Canary Wharf area. Don't drive in with the bikes on the roof though wink

park around the o2, cycle along the path, then take the ferry back to your car?

As you're in SE London I'd suggest parking in Greenwich Park or on Blackheath Common. Then cruise through the park, down the hill to the foot tunnel in Greenwich to cross the river and then pick up your riverside route.

Thanks for that guys , very late health kick , so getting into leg power gently ,had the bikes for a couple of years now , but being lazy not given them a lot of use.
Off down to Broadstairs with my brothers for a gentle seafront ride this weekend , then looking at possible FLAT rides later on that also have some interest and views , then bikes on roof of car , and the Dordogne calls.

For the Greenwich Peninsula there is a free car park just off the Blackwall tunnel southern Approach road (A102).
Look for the B&Q and IMAX cinema.
On Google maps It's marked as the Millennium Leisure Park.

You can get to the Thames path from there via bike lanes to the Thames Barrier and cycle round to Greenwich.
Though as others have said some of the route is on diversion.

You can also take bikes on the cable car across the river, or get the Thames Clipper boats (Land Sea and Air :-)

BTW there is a nice pub nearby called the Pilot.
