Well dodgy geezer joins Ebay on Sunday then buys an item I'm selling on Monday.

Pays via Poopal.

Has +ve fb of 3 from private listings dated during the past month, so I'm not able to see what these purchases were and when they were made.

So I block him from any further purchases from me and attempt to refund the Poopal payment.

Only now it looks like the mfers keep their 4% fee when you do this so I'm down several pints (expensive item).

If this is correct then all sellers are at risk of losing money from scammers.

Not impressed.

When I have reversed any Paypal payments I have had the fees refunded

May be that they keep the 4% if the refund is over a certain amount.

I'll try again tonight.

the fee is refunded too.

Did you send or refund directly from paypal, or did you cancel from ebay, which then automatically returns the money?

Cancelled via Ebay.

Then got an email from Ebay saying that there was a problem with the refund and I had to do it via Paypal.

I reckon the buyer's using a hacked Paypal account so the refund is stalling and they are keeping the fee.

Means that I have to transfer money into the account to cover the fee before I can see if the refund goes through.

May be heading for live chat later tonight.

Be careful, it's beginning to sound a bit like a scam.
