New car at 21ish
Discussion
Hey PHers, hope you're all well!
As the title suggests I'm nearing 21 and looking to treat myself to a new car! Something relatively quick, a bit tired of the old 1 litres and the like! I'm open to anything really and have a sizeable budget once I sell my current car, around 8k. (2013 VW Polo TSI R Line)
Not too picky but must have the following:
-Must be a 4 door (Occasional family and pub taxi)
-Must get decent MPG, somewhere in the 30's.
-Reliable
-Nothing my insurers can bend me over for! (Been driving 3 years in September and a clean license)
If I've posted this in the wrong area I apologise, I'm new :P

Ask yourself what do you want? Front wheel, rear or all wheel drive?
How much are you willing to spend on insurance?
What is the base line mpg you can afford?
You give a budget of £8k but how much can you comfortably afford, man maths is a slippery slope.. trust me on this one!!
Can comfortably afford 9k and obviously the longer I wait the more I'll have as I have nothing to pay out for. Was looking at a Fiesta ST and the insurance was £2300 but I'm pretty sure I can get something better and more powerful for the same insurance price. Can afford anything around 30mpg but money isn't really much of an issue. How much are you willing to spend on insurance?

Forget 4 doors your 21
Nice tidy 325i coupe would be good choice.

Let me just there before one of the bods do and say that you shouldn't be spending this kind of money on a car at your age and by now I had 5 houses, a wife, 16 dogs and earned £250kpa and still wouldn't spend that much on a car.....
In seriousness though there is quite some choice out there at your budget, make the most of it.

I can't think of any reason other than a lack of money which would influence someone to consider MPG when buying a car. You seem to have plenty. Why are you making the fuel usage stipulation?
It just gives you an idea of what the running cost are really but not really overly important to me..Big GT said:

Agreed! Plenty of time for 4 door family Hatchbacks!

Once you have a family there won't be room for a 2 seater convertible/coupe in your life!
