Hi

Probably a very very harsh title but my heart is desperate for an s65 (have whined about it on here and other forums) but given the scarcity and the fact I needed a car I have bought the next best thing a s600 until I find a s65.

The car I have bought is very highly specced facelift w221 which has distronic, lane assist, lane warning, night vision, fridge, rear entertainment, amg kit, contour and massage seats, designo interior, pan roof, keyless entry/start etc etc etc.

I picked her up yesterday and really love the car, she looks stunning in the flesh and is the perfect spec, today got to drop the kids off while they watched mr tumble and I had a massage with distronic working and a lovely chilled temperature.

I haven't even touched the surface with the gadgets comfort and capability of this car and am definitely in the honey moon period as its barely a day old smile

Anyway thought I would share some pictures and early thoughts;

Car looks amazing and for my honeymoon thoughts looks better than the car that replaced it.

Car in comfort mode is a little too lazy and I already find myself putting the gearbox in sport.

Digital dash holds a wealth of info and is a tad intimidating I am sure with time I will get used to where and what all the little icons mean.

The engine is never stressed, admittedly I have only done 150 miles but you think your getting moving and accumulating speed and look down and the revs hovering around 3500.

All in all the car is everything I could want from a car(barring it being a s65 smile) at the moment and I can't think of a car that would work better for me.

I feel like the car with an initial purchase price of 130k that has depreciated to a ridiculous point but is still modern enough to have cool gadgets and has performance which can keep up in a straight line with 85% of traffic feels like a tick so many box car!

Enough rambling and some pictures smile

It looks massive in that final pic!

How much more performance is there from the 65 to this? Surely this is more than enough, and with a remap or something it should be similar?

It is a long old girl and the performance is circa 520bhp 600ft for the 600 vs another 100 ish brake and torque. This definitely adequate smile

Good work sir!!

I have the version and absolutely love it.

Have your coil packs been done? If not budget for 1500 per bank. Onky other thing to look out for are squeaky front ball joints

Enjoy!

Absolutely magnificent machine, I'm not sure "85% of traffic" quite covers it!

Thanks gents, not sure if the coil packs have been done but I do have the merc warranty. What about abc shenton any issues with that and how long have you had your beast for?

What's the 15% of traffic it doesn't keep up with?

No ABC issues on mine. Apparently the 221/216 were much better from that point of view.
I did have the older 600 CL W215 a few years ago - that was a different matter!!
Ive had my 600 CL since Sept 16 having traded out of a E60 M5.
Ive gotta tell.you that you are underestimating your 85%. Id say more like 99%!!
Gratuitous pic.....

Nice, what are these like to drive? How is the autobox with the paddles, is it fun for such a large car?

I need to try out the abc sport, it's obviously long and I haven't used the paddles yet. The comfort mode in the gearbox is way to lazy for me so straight away it goes into sport, the accelerator pedal is very heavy so it feels like you have to really get up the revs to get moving but when you compare how much effort is used to press the pedal you notice you aren't really that high in the range. Probably a mixture of me be a weakling and getting used to a new car (new to me).
