Perhaps a strange question, but does the DCT transmission have a "full auto" mode rather than having to use the gear lever or paddles all the time ?
It would be useful in town certainly, then use the paddles etc on the open road....

Hope somebody can advise before I waste time going to look at one as nearest to me (@ a BMW dealer) is some 60 miles away.

And the full auto in the f10 m5 is actually pretty good too.

Had the F10 M5 and M6 GC CP, now the 2017 M3 CP, all auto box's with the option of paddle shift.
Best box's out there.

As others have said it is a pretty decent box in full auto.

Yep, it's a good auto box.

I have an M4 with DCT and prior to that I had a 330d with the 8-speed ZF.

I don't think the M4 is noticeably 'worse' in auto than the ZF was.

I like to use the paddles a lot of the time but will stick it in auto on longer trips and it's great.
