Anyone else had the misfortune of reading the 'Rules of posting' in particular section 12:-

12. Types of Thread/Posts that are not permitted in the forums:

a. For sale threads/posts, regardless of type of item.
b. Valuation/What's it worth threads in any shape or form, regardless of item.
c. Vehicle wanted threads of any description. Parts wanted threads/posts will be allowed at the discretion of PH.
d. Job adverts (recruiting, wanted etc.) are allowed in the 'Jobs and Employment Matters' forum only.
e. Do not create threads/posts about your own personal websites, blogs, social media channels or video hosting sites such as YouTube. This will be deemed as advertising and/or endeavouring to drive traffic to external sites from PistonHeads.
f. Swap threads in any form are not allowed.
g. "Where to Advertise/Sell" threads are not allowed.
h. "Thinking of selling up," etc. threads are not allowed.
i. Do not post links to your friend's or family's adverts.
j. No "What's wrong with my Ad" / "Why isn't it selling?" type threads.
k. General banter/nonsensical threads that don't fit into the spirit of PH may be removed.

Close the site now, we're not allowed to ask for advise on anything we may or may not have as it maybe misinterpreted as an ad or valuation, and post here in the lounge as it breaches rule 12k.
I can remember when this site used to be interesting and helpful, now it just seems over moderated.

Bring back Ted!

I think PH has it about right. We can say most things and discuss most things freely without being overtly censored, bar the swear filter.
Visit mumsnet for a total free for all on the swearing and barking at the moon stuff.

Twice in the last 6 months I've had threads removed for asking a bit of advice, yesterdays just took the biscuit because it breached rule 12g.
May I suggest the mods spend some time in the watches or even better the car buying section, you'd have a field day imposing your rules.

You may have noticed a thread called Do you use a fountain pen, which is all about giving advice and encouragement.

I am sure that it is a boring topic to many but for the few, and especially me, we get a lot of benefit and enjoyment from it and I would hope that is part of what PH is all about.

Slightly off topic but can I thank all who have contributed to the Fountain Pen thread for the respect and civility shown to all.

The rules are now clearly transparent and clearly defined, every member has had to agree to these rules prior to entering the site. If you don't want to get threads/posts pulled then it's very simple DON'T Breach them.
Back in Teds days, yes they were a little bit more open to interpretation and implementation but were also open to inconsistency.
The rules now are far more detailed then they have ever been purely because unless they are as definitive as they are some members will always shout that the mods are being unfair and inconsistent.

Just for clarity the majority of current HM mods are were recruited by Ted himself.

So just to recap, if you don't want threads/post removed don't breach the rule!

Of course you always have the option to start up your own website, and you can then run it as you wish. smile
