Anyone used Motorpoint?

Basically seen a car I am after they are comfortably the cheapest but Ive never used them before and Im a bit skeptical of the past of the cars in question. Has anyone used them before?

Mostly ex daily rental but so is the vast majority of young one owner stuff for sale anywhere

Whats the car?

If its brand new, chances are its an import. Otherwise its likely to be an ex hire car or ex company lease car.

Also, they dont always keep the best cars so watch for scuffs and scratches.

Oh - and they like to charge extra for things - a service, "admin", HPI check....

Like most car supermarkets - they are mostly geared up with selling you finance to fund the car. They have added circa £500 on to their purchase price. What that means is that a VERY minimal amount of preparation has been carried out on the vehicle. They may CLAIM to have serviced it - but checking the oil level and the washer bottle level is NOT a service.

They will also add a "fee" onto whatever price you agree to pay for it. This fee will vary between these sorts of places. Some are £100, £199 and all sorts of other figures - and they will also try to flog you lots of various "add-ons". NONE of them are worth the money they want to charge you. They are ALL designed to bump up the profit for them - but to, essentially, give you NOTHING in return.

The vehicle MIGHT look cheaper up front than the equivalent vehicle somewhere else - but by the time you leave, having signed your life away, you won't be any better off than if you bought from a main dealer, or better still, bought privately.

On two occasions now, i've bought a year old VW (a Golf TDI and now a Passat TDI) from a main franchised VW dealer (fully serviced, mats, flaps, full tank of diesel, Grade A car) for significantly LESS than the car supermarkets were asking

I have a good friend who swears by them, always buys new (normally fiestas) changes it yearly, buys for cash and reckons the ford franchises can't come close to matching the deal

They are likely imports but it depends on if that's really an issue or not (i.e. Is it basically a white goods car like the fiesta or something more desirable/exotic)

I bought a car from them because it was both cheaper and in better condition than those I'd seen at main and independent dealers. It took a while for the sales guy to do his patter and to get a test drive but it was all very polite and friendly. I'd definitely buy from them again, if they have the car you're after go look at it.

It's an ex-company lease car serviced once by a main dealer. I think most(all) of their cars are ex-lease and as they're all sub 3 years 25k miles should have balance of manufacturers warranty.

i buy a lot of their part ex's (trade) and the cars i see usually like nice enough and i would recommend them, im in their regularly and see very few irate customers

mostly ex rental or ex dealership can't shift stock. seen cars going in for prep round the back with vindis stickers on the back, and you can sometimes spot a dealership number plate on the photos.

I found their screen prices to be essentially my target price of a main dealer. In my case I got a better deal at a main dealer. After ringing around dealers who had the car I wanted, a new one in my case hence not worried about buying on condition, I went with who offered the best service and price.

I call to a dealer in Slough lasted all of 5 minutes before we agreed a price and I went to collect the a few days later.

I guess my point is that it pays to shop around and not assume a supermarket's screen price will be the best you'll get.

I have purchased 2 "import cars" brand new from them. One I had a trade in and got a good price for it and the other just the purchase. Both were for cash, no finance in the deal. I found them easy to deal with and the cars have been fine.

My dad has had a couple from them

Looked at about 20 each time until he found one in good enough condition to satisfy him

And he isn't proud!

But he says very straightforward to deal with once it is clear you are buying. Drive away in well under an hour

Its an X3 its less than a year old, they are cheaper that everywhere else but I would rather buy from a BMW garage if possible. One BMW person said to me that they dont know what 'checks' they do but its obviously up to me, they can come within around £100 of their price so tempted to go for the BMW dealer.

When I got there they tried to add an extra year warranty and apparently there is an extra £100-£150 preparation fee, they also offered a pretty poor part exchange value, I didnt really have a good experience so it put me off. I also noticed their were marks all over the back of the driver seats, and the mileage was very low. Alarm bells were ringing for me!

So if theres only £100 in it why would you not go to the BMW dealer?

Sorry I should have clarified, BMW were listed as alot more, the salesman came back to me and then said he could get it within a £100 of the motorpoint price but that was on the phone today about 15mins before they shut, I said I would speak to him tomorrow. I probably will go with the BMW dealer all being well

I supplied Motorpoint cars when I worked at a manufacturer. They went via a dealer that registered them and Motorpoint sold them as pre registered.

Cool. But most are imports - its worth asking the question and getting confirmation.

I bought a very clean low mileage DS3 for wifey ,it was a good 600quid cheaper than others . I declined their finance , body protection application stuff 300quid extra warranty etc . The salesman was over pleasant up until then ,when he knew he was,nt going to earn any more commission his mood definitely changed .The car was registered to Citreon as a company lease but obviously the previous user looked after it .
