Despite the best efforts of some posters do we have any muslims left on PH?

if so, i'd really appreciate your advice

A business contact very kindly undertook some work for me with very little charge. Its the sort of thing that to offer money would demean the gift, but i would like to say thankyou.

Normally id send a case of excellent wines, or fine food. Clearly wine is out, and the food i'd normally send it not hallal

so- what should i send as a thank you- probably around the £100 mark?

Would you not be able to repay the favour "in kind" at some future date? I completely agree that cash would be a bit awkward smile

If you definitely want to send a token of your appreciation you could try something like this

http://www.halalhamperhouse.net/occasion/eid-hampe...

FWIW £100 sounds a bit excessive IMHO, even for PH... biggrin

Whilst well intentioned that probably wouldn't have the same effect. It would be like the other guy donating to the OP's church, without knowing how religious OP is, or how deeply he feels about fundraising for that particular church.

A personal gift, especially one where OP's made an extra effort to get something suitable/appropriate, will definitely be far more appreciated.

Not a Muslim but if chocolate is not appripriate, halwa, dates or biscuits might work. At Harrods they have counters for fancy versions of these, it seems to be an alternative to chocolate for Arab customers.

My wife is Muslim, she would accept and be grateful for anything except pork and alcohol, she doesn't,understand when people who visit bring me duty free scotch, we have people who stay, they bring here perfume, I'd suggest a pen.

A nicely timed Eid Mubarak card (Eid should fall on the 25th June) with a box of (halal) chocolates would go down well for me.

I would avoid charitable donations to mosques because he's probably already donated what with it being Ramadan.

So is mine, the last time someone brought me a decent bottle of red she quickly nicked it and started to consume the contents, I was given the princely total of 1 glass! frown

Back on topic ....

As it is Ramadan you could ask him directly if he is doing anything for a specific charity or community organisation, there is an increased focus on giving and supporting the needy / less fortunate during ramadan, you could offer either your time, or the donation of food or other necessities. He would be unlikely to refuse to accept such an offer as it is a good deed for others.

Or just buy a hamper as you would for any other person.

The number of Muslim/Islamic/Halal spec hampers available with 5 seconds effort on Google suggests that suppliers of these items have not had an oversight with regards to c. 25% of the global market...

A gift at this time of year, easy, charity. If you ask at a local mosque if you could pay, in part, for iftar it will go down very well. I am sure your friend and many others will appreciate it.
