I need a temporary car that will cost as little as possible over 6 months.

I'd like to stick to a £2k budget, but I can increase it there's something that will not need a penny spent on it and won't depreciate much over 6 months. I'm more worried about breakdown/servicing costs than fuel economy.

Needs to take two Labrador-sized dogs in the boot. Short journeys only so a hatchback would be OK as long as they physically fit without the hatch hitting their heads.

Bonus points for anything interesting.... Although I appreciate anything interesting is more likely to need money spent on it.

Best I can come up with currently is a 2013 Dacia Sandero for £3k. No thrills, but hopefully no costs either.

Ideas?

Surely the answer is to get the best Volvo V70 you can buy for £2k.

Bonus points for finding a turbocharged petrol version.

Get a Mitsubishi Pajero Junior, if you can find one. Not a new import, those are expensive.

Sort of look like a Suzuki Jimny.

It was reliable, 1lt petrol engine, 4wd, and cheap to run and insure.

Surely the cheapest car possible with a long(ish) mot, something like this...

We used to fit a Labrador and Boxer in the back of ours with no problems smile
