More wiring worries!

After sorting out all my wiring behind the dash and surviving , I've now moved into the engine compartment

Symptom - rev counter intermittantly working, and sometimes working at half or even quarter the correct revs.

Now, my question is.... on the coil there are 4 wires, 2 on + and 2 on -. The + colours are yellow/white and - white/black - which as AFAIK is correct.

But there is also a yellow/white and black/white wire just free and not connected around the water pump area.

Anybody know what these are for, and could they be causing intermittant problems?

To add:- I've put on a new coil.

Do you have good connectons to the ignition amplifier on the side of the distributor? Sound about right for those connections, Pretty sure thats what they should be connected to. Cant believe it even runs without a connection though......

Two of the fours wires already connected do go to the ignition amplifier, and one black/white wire goes to ECU?

The two unused wires do go into the loom...

I think 2 WB wires go to the ign anp, and then connect to the rev counter as well as a connection to a diode strapped to the wiring that goes to the AFM. No trace of extra wires on mine, but they may be taped into the loom?

Mmm, The black/white wire on mine goes from the coil to the diode by the AFM, but it doesn't go through the ignition amplifier

TBH, I would'nt have thought you have any ignition problems, just the coil -> rev counter or the instrument itself. I think you should be able to tell if its not firing properly.

There's no noticeable bad running - I'll send the tacho off to be tested.
