If you were buying wheels for trackday use, on which to fit Toyo R888R tyres or similar, what diameter/width/offset wheels would you fit?

I was thinking that 18" would be best but I don't think you can get R888Rs in size 265/40 for the rear, the closest being 275/35 I believe.

What do you use?

Thanks, DM.

legal racing or fun ?

I use a Cup2 and a PS4S on 19" as both are also great road tyres.

Ideal would be Cup2 on 19" and PS4S on 18" if wetter.
OZ make loads of wheels which fit and are light.

Trofeo r is also a fast tyre but wears more.

Well to be accurate I need the wheels/tyres for hillclimbing, rather than trackdays, so I guess that is legal and fun. I'm restricted to MSA List 1B tyres and have no need to use them on the road for any significant distances.

HI that's why I asked due to the MSA List 1B tyres rules.

see what the fastest car is using and try those, hill climbing you need grip when cold I guess.

still need 2 sets of wheels and tyres though as the UK is quite wet !

OZ wheels are key as they are light and fit perfect, if you can run a wider front track again worth it be that offset or spacers.

I was planning on having two sets of wheels, ideally I'd keep my 19" wheels for road use (the Michelin tyres are quite new with plenty of tread - and I like the look of them) and use another set for hillclimbing. Rather than spend, possibly unnecessarily, on a set of 18" wheels I'm now considering getting the List 1B tyres fitted to the set of 17" wheels I already have.

The existing tyre sizes are 205/55 17 front (7J) and 235/50 17 rear, the closest fitment are Toyo R888R in sizes 225/45 17 front and 255/40 17 rear (8.5J) - the lower aspect ratio will alter the gearing a little which may help in the slower corners, but also may mean having to grab another gear on the higher speed sections.

I went through the process of looking at smaller wheels for trackdays but it turned out that this limited the choice of tyres I could get for them. Would have had to compromise on the sizes as you've already found. So I went for a set of Oz 19s as Porsche911R suggests above which gave me plenty of choice in the right sizes. I have super sports on mine but you can get Cup2s if you like. The Cup2s I presume will be allowable from your list....and will be better than the Toyos.
