As a gift for my friend who has everything, I want to buy him a car, for amusement rather than anything else.

I don't want to spend more than £100...a months MOT would be nice so he can drive it away, reasonably close to Sheffield and vaguely interesting ...

Possible?

Anyone got anything?

Does it have to work? I don't have anything but having bought really cheap cars you'll be lucky to find something that starts and stops let alone be in an MOTable state.

Clios like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-Clio-1-2-Authent...

can go for sub £200 on auctions. £100 will be very difficult, though!

How about this peach?

https://www.gumtree.com/p/renault/clio-diesel-spar...

Apparently, the engine is really noisy and doesn't sound good at all. hehe

Or how about this...

On this one, no-one knows how long the noisy gearbox will last. Transmission roulette! Love it!

i have but nowhere near sheffield i'm afraid. car is in SL2 area

Puma 1.7, MoT until 31.07.

has all the usual puma faults (although arches not too crusty (yet):

high idle - it's not the ICV, assume lambda. new ICV with the vehicle though (fitted, didn't solve it, refitted original)
no heating although all fan speeds present. presumably the heater control valve failed and it got bypassed as the original is absent altogether. new HCV with the car.
dashboard crashes quite regularly. sometimes reboots immediately, sometimes takes a couple of miles.
parcel shelf is wibbly and won't stay put
it may or may not have service history, never checked - i just put fuel in it and drove it for a couple of weeks
interior is grubby but all present.
MoT advisory for the last 2 years has been "all floor pans corroded" but clearly not fail-worthy to date

has heated fr screen and TCS, drove OK when i did use it and seems to handle as it should. it's blue with fabric interior. assume battery flat by now so possible problems with radio code (which i don't have). i'll see if i can stun it into life over the next day or so and report back.

it may get to the end of the street or it may get to the other end of the country, i have no idea.

if it won't start (can't see why not, was fine before being parked up) then i'll get it hauled off

if it runs OK then £100 if you/anyone else is interested.

Sounds perfect...but too much of a risk for me to get it back from SL2 frown
