£7,500 to do another 100k in 4 years
Discussion
Brief is quite simple. I need a reliable car to do 25k a year for 4 years (at least). If it lasts longer, even better.
It needs to be quite big, to carry a large dog and up to 4 people.
I want auto and comfort for those miles.
Budget up to 10k but ideally 7.5k.
I'm thinking buying a late E Class W211 (post facelift) E220d estate. It'll have 50-70k already on it but with maintenance should do another 100k with ease. Thousands of German taxi drivers can't be wrong surely?
Anything else I should consider or is the E class a bad idea?

I did 312k in a 2007 facelift 220Cdi saloon. It was still in good enough condition inside and out to be clocked back to 79k after I sold it.It needs to be quite big, to carry a large dog and up to 4 people.

I also did the same mileage funnily enough in a 2003 pre facelift.

That is a little what I'm worried about. Am I naive in thinking a FSH and MOT checks against dates and mileages will help prevent this or are the clockers sophisticated enough to fake those as well?
Yes, because they carry their mileage well it's something to be careful of. A quick check on the MOT history on my 2007 car shows the clocking but if it is done annually before each MOT or if there is a plate change it can sometimes be difficult to spot.
I would recommend buying from a reputable garage and get a car with a verifiable service history.
Mercland in Nuneaton come highly recommended, and Jay the owner sponsors the MBUK club website so you should be ok buying from him. There are others obviously but I would make sure you do a bit of research on the garage as well as the car.
Check Merclands website, they advertise on PH as well as MBUK and always have a good selection of Mercs for sale.

The MOT history checker should be a good indicator as it'll be recorded independently for each test.Chris
If it doesn't have to be an estate then here are a few options:
2008 E220 Avantgarde 50k

2006 E320 Avantgarde 50k (I'd say these are the better option as they're not having to work as hard)

I'd also prefer only running on 16's for total 'waft ability', I'm not precious on looking cool.
