It seems to me especially around here in Kent that there are more people driving through red lights which I find more dangerous than doing 85 -90 on a motorway, traffic permitting.
Is this trend happening near you ?

I don't understand why people get so worked up about red light jumpers. If you can see all side of the junctions and there is no other traffic to be seen, what's the problem?

The only reason it's happening more is because the Highways departments and local councils are installing sets of lights on every junction and roundabout they can find and then if that were not bad enough, they set the sequence purposely to make you stop and wait as long as they can get away with in an attempt to piss you so much that you will sell your car and use their beloved public transport.

Yes many more jumpers on pointlessly controlled empty roundabouts ... Good on them.

If you follow the letter of the law, most times a traffic light turns red somebody jumps it. One of those things that has become so ingrained in our driving culture that you don't even notice it.

Context is everything, do it in a car and it's OK on PH but God help you if you do exactly the same thing on a bike rofl

In London I see it at rush hour, with people crossing the road. So yep get worked up.

Indeed as the "letter of the law" is that Amber means stop.
Doesn't help when a silly amount of people don't actually know how traffic lights work.

Yes.

It's been happening for a while. It's not uncommon for 3 or even 4 cars to go through a red. Apologies if this sounds prejudiced but generally i find it happening more often in scummy areas populated by people with scummy attitudes.

Personally, I wouldn't risk jumping a red, on the basis that someone coming across the junction/roundabout may have deployed launch control as their light turned from red to amber. The combination of them jumping their light, and me jumping mine could end up in a coming together.

Jumping a red seems like a daft thing to do, just to save a few seconds/minutes. A bit like weaving in and out on the motorway to get ahead by two cars.

Chill out, people! laugh

There is a roundabout nearby me (the Black Boy roundabout) that is absolutely the worst for this. I've seen so many accidents here and they're usually always down to a red light jumper. Mankind's inability to wait an extra two minutes will be the downfall of the human race.

Happens too often.

People seem to treat pedestrian crossings as less important than junctions controlled by lights.
There's a couple of crossings near my son's nursery where cars regularly carry on through red lights. Sometimes it's a lack of awareness sometimes it's simply not caring.

The crossings above are very close to a school so around 8am are very busy with kids, some people clearly don't care.

I for one wouldn't mind if there was a camera on every traffic light and crossing.

The awesome, off camber, merging laned, squeezed in junctions, incorrectly phased lights, "new" black boy roundabout - how I do love it!

I tried jumping a red light but I couldn't get my leg high enough.

No, you must be wrong. Cars have insurance and number plates and pay road tax, so it's not possible. Only cyclists jump lights because they have none of those things, and they must be brought into line. tongue out

Seems almost endemic in the part of Birmingham we live in. Not just people racing to get through as the lights change but sailing through at speed a good three + seconds after they've changed. Seen a couple of really close shaves in the past week, driving in this city never seems to involve what you should or shouldn't do, more a case of if you can get away with it, it's ok.

I had to drive lowton in to Blackburn last week, 9.7 miles , there's a 3 mile stretch in the middle on a b road with no lights

Including pelican crossings I counted 23 sets of lights and 2 roundabouts

Cars waiting at every set of lights , both roundabouts flowing freely
