White Subaru Impreza Hawkeye STI 2.35 Stroker
Discussion
Hi All,
Having owned a Impreza STI for the best part of 8 years before moving it on to buy a Golf R, a couple of years later I found myself in a position to buy another... here it is:
- EJ22 Closed Deck Engine Block
- RCM 2.35 Stroker Kit
- RCM Omega Pistons
- RCM Con Rods
- RCM 14mm Headstud kit
- RCM 11mm modified oil pump
- RCM Racing Cams
- CDF Racing Fuel Rails
- Aluminium Lightweight Pulleys
- Rotated Inlet Manifold
- Lateral Performance MD321V Turbo
- Hybrid Front mount intercooler
- AP 6 pot front brake kit
- BC Racing Coilover suspension
- Mapped to just under 500bhp/500lbft at 1.6bar boost on vpower.
- Defi Gauges
Currently being fitted:
- Cosworth cam belt and OEM pulleys and tensioner (OCD as the engine has only covered 2000 miles since being built)
- CDF Clear timing belt covers.
- CDF Reverse alternator mounting kit.
- Mishimoto X-Line Aluminum Radiator with OEM fans fitted.
- Various nuts and bolts being replaced with new OEM items.
- Hard turbo inlet pipe being fabricated and fitted.
- Syvecs S6 Plus ECU purchased and mapping booked for 8th August.
- Purple wheels being refurbished in anthracite.
- Rear lights changed to blobeye lights.
Plans for the end of the year:
- RCM Rotated Up Pipe and Downpipe kit.
- Scoobyclinic GT35 Billet turbo
- External fuel pumps and swirl pot
- Ported and polished heads as I'm not entirely sure what headwork has been carried out during the engine build (Maybe)
- Cosworth Inlet Manifold
- NOS for spool (Maybe)
- Refurbish all suspension components including fitting of a JDM quick steering rack and the entire whiteline catalogue.
- Refurbish front brakes, source and fit rear AP brakes.

My word, That looks like a beast. That set up must be capable of more than 500 Bhp!
Who did then engine work?
PS. Also glad to see you've got rid of the purple wheels. Bookmarked!
PPS. It that a royals refurbished steering wheel?

The injectors, stock ECU running MAF/stock MAP sensor and silicone inlet pipe are limiting the power at the moment. I've bought a Syvecs S6+, a hard inlet pipe has been fabricated and I'll be sourcing injectors before the mapping session which is booked for the 8th of August.Who did then engine work?

The turbo will make slightly more power before it reaches its peak.
The engine components are rated to 700-750, however as I'm sure you are aware multiple factors need to be considered and addressed before it'll make this sort of power.
Wheels have been dropped off at Alloy Art for refurbishment.
I believe it is a Royals refurbished steering wheel, the quality of the wheel is excellent.

This must be truly savage. What's a 500 hp turbo like to daily drive? Is it a twin scroll setup?
It is a single scroll billet wheeled turbo. Turbo technology has improved vastly since the early 90's... you'd be amazed at how well this spools and the off boost drivability of the stroker engine. Nice car.
I have pretty much an identical 2.35 engine in my P1, complete with ported and polished RCM non avcs race heads (dual titanium valve springs etc). It also used to have an MD321V on it as well, but I now run a GT35r billet turbo that is managed by a Motec M800 ecu. 570bhp on plain v power is the result, which is nice, especially in a 1290kg car.
IMHO the GT 35 is pretty much the perfect turbo for a 2.35 as it's making over 300 BHP by just over 4000rpm and charges into my (self imposed) redline of 7500 with no tailing off of grunt.
I have a set of Cosworth AVCS heads to go on it in due course which should widen the power band even more.
Enjoy

Very nice spec, I've got a soft spot for a 2 door classic! It must be savage with that power to weight. This is great, I've always loved the Impreza and I think the Hawkeye/late DCCD Blobeye is about peak for the Impreza in my eyes. I am fond of the earlier models but they're dating inside and out, the interior and looks on these still looks the part IMO even if they are a bit 'loud' compared to most things on the road.
Only thing I'd change looks wise with yours is the mudflaps, otherwise it will look spot on with the PFF7s

At 440+ BHP/tonne its fair to say that it's a tad nippy! More power would be easily accessible if I wanted to run a bit of jungle juice or turn up the boost a bit, but it's more than adequate right now, plus it's a lot less faff just to run on plain v power.Paul Blamire and Richard O'Donovan of Zen Performance built the engine with RCM parts and mapped it on RCM's rollers and the road. They also fitted the 6 Speed dccd, exetc suspension, carbon prop, and 365mm Alcon 6 pots, etc.
Paul also maps RCM's Gobstopper cars. He has now moved on to a senior position within Ecutek, but Richard AKA Rich AKA Ren (based in Earith, Cambs)is now mapping with access to Paul's knowledge in Paul's spare time, if necessary. My car is currently with Rich having a little map tweak and service before I take it back on track.
Rich also does the mechanical side and, aside from RCM, I wouldn't take my car anywhere else (no commercial connection etc).
