Hi there

I have a question about the 718 Cayman S configurator (which I understand has less functionality than the ones in the dealerships).

I recently test drove a 718 CS with full black leather interior and sports seats plus. It had yellow deviated stitching on the seats, dash and door cards (which matched the yellow dials and sport chrono face... looked nice!).

On the spec sheet, the deviated stitching showed as a circa £400 option.

I am looking at doing deviated stitching to match a red or orange exterior, as a way of brightening up a dark cabin (as opposed to doing "interior package painted"). The configurator doesn't actually show up deviated stitching on the sample image, but the "interior trim packaged with decorative stitching in contrasting colour" is listed at £1,431. Is this (i) the correct option, and (ii) the correct price (or is the £1,431 instead of the £1,485 full leather option)?

Seems very steep if it is genuinely that much for different colour thread...

Thanks

it seems on the 718 it costs a total of £3336 to get leather and coloured stitching.

1st you need a leather option at £1485, then there are 2 option later but one needs the 2nd one if you want dash/doors etc which is £1851

total £3336.

it all shows up ok if you choose the 360 view and then take a look inside the car.

Why not have a look at the Bordeaux/Black leather interior. There is bordeaux contrast stitching as standard, you can get bordeaux dials and belts if you wish. I do not know how well the bordeaux contrasts with carmine or guards red, does look good with GT silver and agate grey IMHO.

Ruddy nora - it doesn't half rack up!

I've actually registered my interest in the GTS, so hopefully a couple of grand will get me the GTS interior package and obviate the requirement to do my own 'interior design'!

RMJ did OPC give you any idea of launch date for GTS ? I registered my interest 12 months ago but no detailed news from OPC other than launch probable in September. I have booked trip to Frankfurt Motor Show and Porsche Factory visit for end of September in hope of catching an early glimpse!!

I got told that they expect to see it on the road in the UK in Q1 2018, so yes, announced late this year.

Annoying, because the sales guy insisted it wouldn't be til 2019, so I took a lease on a different car until January 2019 (despite having been sure myself it would be out early 2018) - and now they have changed their tune and agree with me that it will be early next year.

So I'll either have to buy myself out of the lease or let the opportunity pass me by (I wouldn't want to by buying a GTS when the next generation has already been announced...)

I too have now decided to wait for the 718 Cayman GTS ..... rumoured to be announced at the Frankfurt Show in September .

This is mainly due to the 718 Cayman S not being available to order in Black Leather with Black stitching . Only deviating colour stitching is currently available .

So I will order the GTS in standard interior with black upper dash leather with black stitching only and have the rest of the interior re trimmed in the leather colour of my choice with matching stitching by a Porsche Specialist Trimmer after delivery .

I have chosen a Stone Colour Leather and will obtain a Sport-tex black cloth for the seat inserts .

It seems a shame that Porsche OPC cannot supply an interior in my preferred choice .

Is that right about the black interior? We have a 718 Boxster on order for October build with that interior and haven't heard that. Spec has been locked for a while though as it's PTS.

As far as I am aware the 718 Boxster has a ' colour to sample ' option on the Dealer Configurator whereas the 718 Cayman does not .

I have tried several OPC's for the Standard Black smooth finish Leather interior without the dreaded Silver stitching without sucess !

Even though I have the Leather interior with black stitching on my current 981S.

I thought all the single tone leather options came with the same colour of stitching. It's only the two tone full leather options (crayon/black and bordeaux/black) that have deviated stitching as standard on the black leather parts only. The only option that comes with silver stitching is sport-tex, which is what I've gone for. I don't know what's "dreaded" about the silver stitching though, I like it and my current car has a mix of silver and black stitching and it looks very smart. I would have went with coloured stitching if the price was reasonable but 1800 quid is extracting the urine and probably not a sensible option on the base model. Isn't silver one of the standard deviated stitching options on the GT cars?

Are you referring to the black natural leather option which I believe is only available via the dealer configurator at an eye watering price?

I stand corrected .... Thanks for clearing this up .

All this mis-information has come from two OPC's who were doing their best to dissuade me from ordering a Cayman with a ' colour to sample ' leather from the Cayenne Range of leathers ...... 10K + 2 year wait . ( OPC Reading ).

They only suceeded in me going ' after market ' for the interior of my choice .

Two year wait ? That's ridiculous! Our Cayenne has two tone leather...black and cream. Not the most practical but it looks so much nicer than the all black interior. Everyone comments on it. The Black leather parts have cream stitching but not vice versa.

Yes my problem is the opposite - I want the deviated stitching because I'm not a fan of an all-black interior.

Seems you have to pay through the nose for that, though, unless you go for the black/Bordeaux, which only looks good on dark / white cars (not brightly coloured ones).

Seriously? The colour of the stitching on the leather?

Yes ... The Cayenne cream is what I wanted BUT .... not available for the Cayman / Boxster without going to the Factory to the Custom Dept and waiting up to 2 years and paying 10K plus as well as the air fare to Germany .

I have found a Porsche Trimmer who will re trim the complete Interior ( excluding the Dash top / Steering Wheel ) for 3K .... and only take a week or so .

I would prefer the Sport-Tex interior ....... But only available in the Black / Crayon ...... which is pale grey ( very 1960's ) leather although looks like a stone colour in the Brochure ( Page 108 ) and in Graphite Blue / Crayon .... not to my taste .
The Black Leather and Sport-Tex option only comes with silver stitching on the black leather as does the Dash Top / console etc with these options .

Perhaps the 718 Cayman GTS will be available with a Spot-Tex Option as well as Alcantara or Full Leather ..... we shall see !

That's a big part of why I like the GTS models, actually. I'm not a huge fan of leather, but haven't been able to see sport tex in the flesh, and the options with it are limited if you want a "less plain" cabin.

I have to say it doesn't look great on the configurator (but nor does the carbon steering wheel, which I like in real life). It looks good in Nick Murray's 911 on YouTube, though.

Hoping for a black and red GTS interior package with alcantara, combined with a carmine red exterior, black trim and black wheels. Mmmhmm.
