Larson boat price

Ive been offered a Larson 206 speed boat,it a 2008 and has been well lokked after (i know the guy and looks after his stuff) he hasnt used it for six years and it has been kept in a workshop. He is asing me £15,000 for it,it was £25,000 when new. It seems a bit pricey?? And ideas please.

Price is not too bad for an pristine example, if it is a turnkey boat with the right spec - decent engine, enough grunt, preferably EFI and not carb, right leg etc.. Having stood for six years, this will not be turnkey. I assume that it will have been used in the sea at some point and is an inboard petrol - maybe a 4.3 V6 or 5.0 V8 in a boat of this size, and with Larson, maybe Volvo Penta which are a little more expensive to service than Mercury but IMHO a better lump leg combo with the duo prop.

You can reckon on replacing the bellows and similar watertight rubber elements that prevent you from sinking when they crack and split. Add to that battery(ies), stopcocks if they have not been operated frequently, a decent engine and leg service with riser and manifold inspection and potential replacement at that age (left for ages with salt water inside means they rot from the inside) and goodness knows what else will have corroded in that time and you will spend a further £1-2000 easily if you can't diy.

The other thing. Most folks would prefer to buy a boat that has had regular use. Infrequent use is as bad in a boat as it is for a car. Moreso if had had been stored in the water rather than in a workshop admittedly.

My advice. If you are keen on the boat, make an offer subject to survey and invest a few hundred in a bloody good survey preferably combined with a sea trial to check systems in operation. The hull should be dry since it hasn't seen water for ages, but the rest... well anything found can be knocked off the offer.

Larson make decent boats which do hold their price better than some of North American brands, but after the length of time this one has been standing, I wouldn't touch it at that asking price without professional advice on mechanicals and systems.
