A friend of mine has an 89 3.2,and he has been told that he needs an engine rebuild. He drove the car for about an hour to his service centre and whilst working on the car the mechanic unscrewed the oil filler cap and it was steaming ,therefore it needs a rebuild [allegedlly] is this true or is the mechanics having him on.
Way too little detail for a definitive reply, but my BS detector is tingling.
Tell your mate to get the mechanic to start his Fiesta up for five minutes, then grasp the dipstick in his hand, and tell us if its a little hot.
An hours drive in a 911 SHOULD mean steaming oil, surely. I know an hour in the 944 means steaming bonnet for me

I would be more inclined to see the results of a compression test on each barrell/cylinder before drawing such a conclusion. A top end rebuild on a 3.2 is a possibility circa 100k miles onwards, but assuming there is still good oil pressure the bottom ends rarely need attending to. Depends where you go but a top end refresh should be around 3-4k pounds,,,gasket sets may as well be gold leaf for what they cost.
