Hello!

Thinking of getting an additional car for some fun.....

Decided to just lease this time. Found the below deal, is it a good deal or not?

Initial Payment (9 months) - £2,591.89 inc VAT
Length - 24 months
Annual Millage - 5,000 (baring in mind its only an additional car)
No maintenance

Monthly Payment - £287.99 inc VAT

This is only for the solid paint (white) going to try and see if they will throw the special solid paint in for free.

Cheers guys.

Top lurking.

All that money. Buy a Caterham or a Elise if you want fun.

£287.99 pcm to weekend drive a Golf is nuts. It's a Golf! As the chap above suggested. get a personal loan and go buy a used Elise/VXR220/S2000 etc.

The initial payment alone will see you well into something more fun - with money left over for track days!

Has the tide turned for the Golf R?

Not a single post extoling the virtues of what used to be the second coming... Too many being used for bank jobs, I expect.

I think the problem is twofold: (i) for a performance car, they are very boring and (ii) cheap lease deals mean they are everywhere.

We have a Golf R Estate. It's a superb daily, but I wouldn't own one just as a fun car. It's hugely capable, but a bit one dimensional.

This.

I really like the Golf R - especially in the funky yellow/gold/green colour they offer now - but I wouldn't buy one as my fun car and definitely not on those payment terms.

The R is a great little car but got to agree with others - that is a daft amount to lease it for 2 years on a limited mileage and then hand it back.

Nearly £10,000 to borrow a car.

As others have said. The deposit will get something decent or get a loan for the above sum, then you own something at the end where you can sell it and recoup some of your money back.

Hi,

There is rumoured to be some deals on the R estate and the GTI hatch which have been detailed in the lease thread and are supposed to be coming next week some time. If you definitely want a Golf R may be worth waiting a week or so, no mention if the hatch will feature in the deals for the R but worth waiting for no doubt.

Also, if it is a weekend toy that you won't put many miles on, buy something that won't depreciate much like an S2000.

I'm in Surrey and a mate of mine has had his Golf's plates cloned. It's being used by armed criminals up in Liverpool for robberies etc... He's been told to expect a hard stop / knock on the door from a bunch of ARV's in the near future..

If you want a fun new hot hatch then take a look at the Fiesta ST/Clio 220 Trophy (apparently much improved)/ or see if you can get any of the last of line Megane RS275's (you'll be lucky) or a Focus ST with some Mountune goodies added.
