Can this be done, has anyone any experience of it? Is it better to have one in the front and the wife in the back etc. what combo works?

I did fit 3 in the back of a mk5 GTI but it was a reall PITA and not something you'd want for an everyday option! The B7 isn't 'much' bigger!

The RS would only be an occasional family hack as I have an Smax for that. But for a nicer journey it'd be nice to know I 'could' use the RS.

Looking for first hand experience. Thanks

It's a real squeeze, you end up with the middle seat sitting high and pushing the other two outwards.

No.

Worse, if you get a proper RS4, ie with buckets, there's sod all legroom in the back too for anyone taller than Jimmy Krankie driving.

I think the B8 is a chunk bigger in the rear.

Well we have a sporty Smax as the family car atm, which is great in that respect, but its just not fun to drive. I've always wanted a B7 RS4 but with 3 small kids, 6,4,& 2, I want to be able to bring them out on the family long drive trips with the nicer car too. I had a mk5 gti which I did manage to get them in, but it was a real ball ache to do. You had to fit the outside seats first (they're all front facing, then the third in the middle, but you had to sit the chid in the seat, pull the belt around them, then pull the seat forward to get the buckle in, then push the seat back and pull the belt tight. Not safe in an emergency situation or a crash!! So I only did it about twice! I've a feeling the A4 platform is no wider than the mk5 golf one.

I've just listed my 'fun' car up for sale, an edition 100 S2000, purely because they seem to have risen in value to a point where I'm thinking sell it and get a better family car such as the RS4 avant. Though Mrs Toady wants a nice Q7! I love them too, but it's not going to be a 'fun' car is it! Just a 'nice' family car that the kids will just ruin!!!

Budget will be around the 15-20k, so a B8 RS4 is out of the question...
