add to that Leicester.

The recommendation is to get the car lifted by Porsche rescue and have a loaner, I don't think so....

A loaner sounds fine to me, you get a car to use while you wait for a tyre. Sounds like good service.

What's the problem?

I don't want my car out of my sight, and I'm supposed to be at Donnington sunday.

Surely they should keep these in stock

Slightly OTT reaction, how are you going to cope with servicing?

They can't keep every tyre for every model of Porsche wheel in stock, they're not Kwik-Fit...

Shouldn't be any particular need to get the tyre from an OPC, most competent professional tyre dealers (including the better mobile guys) should now have the correct tools for centre lock removal....
You just need to find one local to you who actually has the correct tyre available from stock.

I can understand your frustration, but I don't see what is wrong with having the car recovered and getting a loaner. They should be able to source a tyre from a Pirelli stockist fairly quickly.

I assume you didn't take out the tyre and wheel insurance? It's making me wonder now if I should reconsider and take it out when mine comes for extra peace of mind - still wouldn't make any difference to needing the car recovered though.

Ok, after some help from a forum member, I have located an independent Tyre place with good rep, the equipment and the Tyre in stock.

This tyre is a common one, its on the back of most 911's

i'll report back later.

If Hatfield is within distance try Porsceh specialists like JZM or RPM....I think they will both change tyres for you.

You need a special torque wrench to do them up. No many have it

you should have in the front compartment a centre lock nut that can be attached to a long pole ...

All sorted, so for anyone in Cambs, Cambridge performance tyres have the kit, and are used to work on performance cars.

Did an excellent job, allowed me to watch, saved the day.

There is indeed the centre lock socket in the car, but a long pole is not going to tell you that you have 600 nm. Lol

Apart from having the right equipment, is there a particular procedure with the centre locks?

First before I get flamed, I'm no expert...

Something about making sure the spring loaded centre pin releases?

Then when tightening, pull to 600nm, then release 1/4 turn then take to 600nm again, you will notice this time it goes far further than 1/4 turn.

Centrelock really aren't a problem, as you don't have any tools to change lugged nuts anyway.

You are right on the tightening procedure, once torqued just make sure that the spring load locking pin in the middle of the nut has popped up, if not you can normally wiggle it in to place.

The only maintenance thing with the nuts themselves is to regrease them with the special Castrol paste, to do this you need to disassemble the nut itself.
