It might be golfer's elbow as I developed it after playing golf recently.

Apart from the strap, which I'm wearing, any helpful tips?

I've had it for a couple of weeks and it's starting to be a real nuisance - painful too.

Thanks

Stop doing things that make it hurt.

Sorry.

I've treated several patients with both golfer's and tennis elbow and, whilst it takes time, it generally responds well to cross friction therapy, eccentric strength exercises, dry needling/acupuncture and active release technique. Hands on treatment does help speed up the recovery process a bit!

I'm suffering from the same. No tennis and certainly no golf though!

Strangely doing heavy stuff in the gym has no effect but mundane things like emptying the dishwasher can be agony!

Thanks - I'll look into that. It's starting to become tricky (and painful) to live with. Even shaking hands is painful.

I had Cortisone injection which after 2 doses seemed to cure the problem. This is about 20 years ago and no repeat problem since.

When I started doing tree work I ended up with tennis elbow in both arms, tried all sorts of physio and painkiller combinations but the only thing that worked was acupuncture. First 2 sessions - absolutely no change. The third session involved putting needles in some different areas including my neck and ears, and within days my arms were fine, and it's never returned! Cannot recommend it enough

I'm just getting over it.

Being a sports surgeon, I went and did the proper research.

Eg Google "cochrane review tennis elbow"

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28461918 is very useful

And this is much for for a research experienced reader: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=lateral+...

Outcome:
Wait for it to go away on its own which it will
Some topical Ibuprofen/voltarol may help.
Nothing else has good proof of usefulness, apart from steroid injection, which I didn't want as corticosteroids have their own issues.
Stop doing the thing that makes it hurt.

So, I think honestbob was there first, and after 6 months of no squash I'm now 90% better

It should also be said that anything useless you do to a condition whilst it gets better on its own, is going to feel like it's helping.

Eg, The Common Cold goes away on it's own, but rubbing Octopus Placenta on your toenails whilst you suffer with it may convince people that the placenta was helping.

The only thing that suffers is your wallet

All very useful - thanks.

I am not doing anything that irritates the elbow and I have a strap on my upper forearm which seems to help. I might take a look at acupuncture and topical creams.

Can't imagine having it in both elbows! Eeek!

And what about when these conditions suddenly improve when the patients have had it for 6+ months and there has been no other variables other than treatment? Placebo? Who cares if the patient improves.

1.Who are you trying hardest to convince it works, the patient or yourself?
2.The patient would care plenty if you charged them £499.99 for Octopus Placenta and they found out it it was a sham
3.A cold often feels miraculously better on the third morning (just after starting a new treatment in desperation)

The first rule I have taught myself, after many years, is to doubt whether many of our treatments are quite as good as we make them out to be. Humility and honesty are my bywords.

No offence is meant

A word of warning !. Yes you do have to protect the elbow and obviously avoid aggravating it.
However. If you do too much work with the good arm YOU CAN GET IN THAT ONE AS WELL
How do i know ? Work it out for yourself.!!!

Get a Thera-band Flexbar. Youtube the exercise videos. It cleared mine within weeks having suffered for best part of a year and tried every 'fix' out there. I bought the red one.

I first found it after reading this article on the NY Times website. It was so effective they cut the trial short and gave it to the control group. It also worked for the two people I loaned mine to.

Im with the DOC i got it quite bad in both arms through sport climbing, i tried the thera band which did seem to have some benefit but really the only way i got rid of it was to stop climbing took 7 months, I'm back climbing again just taking it a lot easier than before i can sometimes feel a twinge but thats all when it was bad if my palm was faced down i couldn't pick up a cup of tea.

Really helping - around 80% improved.

Many thanks.
