Anyone racing?

I'm going to get up at 5am and walk down to RYS and watch the starts.

I raced today (swan65 Ketch), a nice 2am wake up before slipping the lines at 0330 to come to Cowes to collect our helm. We had the pleasure of the 0530 start (which was quiet on the start line as all the other yachts got a lie in!)

A quicker race than last year coming in after 6hr47min. I believe we beat a lot of more modern racing machinery coming 16th out of 43 in IRC0, 58th out of 446 IRC overall and 3rd out of 17 in the Swans.

Good result.

First 4 starts all had OCS.

By 730 it was raining and no-one could see the start line.

On Course Side (jumped the gun / over the line)

Yeah a few boats had individual recalls. We played it safe as there was a good chance of going over with the tide assisting.

Raced yesterday on the J/70. Decent race including a fun tight spinnaker reach from St Cats to Dunnose. Lost a ton of time around Norris and finished rather worse that we would have expected compared to positions at Bembridge Ledge. A fun day out though anyway.

We're GBR 263, here's us at Osborne House before becoming becalmed:

I raced in a mates Centaur with bilge keels and no spinnaker. Southern leg was commensurately a leisurely affair and crew focus was on beer to alleviate disappointment of other watching other boats disappear into the horizon. Tacking unduly was frowned upon and windshifts largely ignored - so even though for some reason we had same rating as other Centaurs with kites - we're not expecting Ben Ainslie to be on the phone anytime soon. That said we all got a buzz parking up in Cowes North Marina next to boats which had winches on the deck worth way in excess of the value of our entire boat wink and we were lot drier than when i regularly used to do the race decades ago in performance race boats with low freeboards!

Not exactly Round the Island, but Red Osprey at 05.30.

Thanks guys, made the ponderous trip to Southampton on the rattly old boot a tiny bit more interesting.
Hope you all had fun.
