It's MoT time again

Last time the tester said you shouldn't do the brake tests on a rolling road if you have a Limited Slip Diff. So he took it out on the road and used one of those old mechanical deceleration gauges.

Can anyone confirm this, or did he just want a drive of the car?

For a car with permanently engaged LSD it is normal for a road test but see the definitive version at www.ukmot.com/manual/3-7.htm and scroll down to B: Decelerometer Test. It's done at 20mph but I suppose the Tester might need to drive for quite a distance to find a bit of flat level road where you can drive at 20 mph!!

Good luck in your MOT - just building up to my debut MOT this month! I think the handbrake (2 hands plus one foot either side of the transmission tunnel gets it past the second click and relative security!) might be its downfall, so I will get out Steve's book at the weekend.

Tee hee! Spot on. The trick is to chat up the tester and sit in the driving seat working the controls for him (his oppo won't know the buttons anyway. Then you can haul on the Handbrake as much as you like and scrape through!

I think all modern TVRs have LSDs, so is this thread saying that we should NOT have them tested on those roller jobbies? Shouldn't testers be aware of this, and what is the potential problem?
