Hi All.

I have a successful business based in the UK repairing electronic bits for cars. We (myself and business partner) have found a niche market (all by accident), we have developed it and grown it, and worked out how to make it work from both a technical and a business POV. Last year from a standing start, we made some decent money - about 75k between us. (Is that a lot? I don't know)
The UK market is about 30% of the French market. We get bugger all from France, because we can't speak French, are not based in France, postage times are excessive, and I guess French people like to deal with French people. It's hard to trust and like someone whom you can't communicate with. (We get some small business from other English speaking countries, but not France, Spain, Germany, Italy etc)

So anyone out there, based in France, able to speak French fluently, with some skills in electronics (not critical), but based in the automotive world - (or willing to be). Would probably suit someone with a workshop already, especially a lift, and a basic understanding of how cars work. We're not too precious about the skills - the right person we like and trust would be more important, as we can train people.

Interesting challenge for PH here.

Alternatively, if there's a better way to find people, I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Thanks everyone.

If I had a sideline raking in 75k with the potential to triple it I'd learn French and go set up in France. Leave the UK bit with your partner. Sounds like a good business and you only have to put your trust in your existing guy.

That would however involve a) Learning French, b) Moving to France, c) Uprooting the kids from schools, and them learning French to. d) Mrs has a posh job, and it wouldn't be economically viable. e) Learning French.

And I want to roll this business model into Spain and Germany as well, so I can't be everywhere.

Did I mention I can't learn French smile Mind you, good food, nice wine, great scenery, great weather....... I suppose there might be some plus sides.

Should be motivation enough to learn the lingo. A surprising number of French don't speak English. In fact most of them don't.

Or if you don't want to move to France and speak French (I wouldn't either), develop/expand your UK operations somehow?

Yeah, of course, but the big market is in Europe, by about 15:1. So the plan has to be to expand into Europe. Hence we need to find partners in France, Germany, Spain, Balkans, Scandinavia. I guess France is the easiest / most lucrative, hence the idea.

If it's refurbishment of Renault parking brakes, why not set up a website in French and get yourself (with some standard French text) onto various forums with a French Facebook page etc?

Why don't you get the mods to transfer the thread to the "France" section ?

Or repost it there yourself.

I have a garage in France, besides all normal work we specialise in electrics and electronics. My French is not too bad and have a few French employees...
