My OH has been offered a petrol on 120k mls, told it has a good service history, old MoT's look good BUT the MoT expires in august & they won't renew it.
It's currently SORN'd making it awkward for us to get it checked over anywhere (private seller).
She wants to go & see it tomorrow, what should we look out for?

Check online for advisories on the old MOTs.
Probs the usual bushes getting worn, but should show up corrosion.
I'm looking at petrol autos for buying one in the next few months.
Nothing major stands out as wrong with them (2005ish models), except for a rear groaning on tight circles which can be water in the rear diff getting in through a breather pipe. This can be flushed.

Check the brakes aren't (partially) seized. Sliding calipers with steel pistons - the sliding pins seize up and the pistons rust under the seals. This tends to warp the discs - you'll feel a pulsing under hardish braking.
Rebuild bits are cheap - 15 quid for a disc etc. and it's typical Honda so easy to work on.
The air conditioner holds a relatively tiny amount of oil - check it still works, get it serviced and always use it.
I've a 2002 petrol auto and it's 4500 miles off 200000 - the only thing I've had to do outside of routine maintenance is occasional attention to the brakes.

Thanks, sadly it's SORN at the moment so my OH managed to take it for a very short drive, never got out of 2nd gear so couldn't properly test brakes etc.Rebuild bits are cheap - 15 quid for a disc etc. and it's typical Honda so easy to work on.

Prices seem to be all over the place on these?
No, not on the Wirral DS so not your nieces car.
Frankly if it's the spec and price you want, doesn't make any weird noises and everything works, buy it.
I've got my brake refresh routine down to 30 minutes a corner with practice (disc, new sliders, new piston, speed bleed) so it's hardly a big job but it might be a few quid off the price.
If the satnav (if it has one!) doesn't work don't worry, they are crap anyway. Get a nice 2U Android unit with a reversing camera in there instead. Gives you phone connectivity and all that modern down with the kids stuff. Again - knock a few quid off.
I think they are priced purely on condition. Mine was 1500 quid because it looks like it's been shot peened.

SatNav is not working, not remotely bothered. I'm not really hands on mechanically, don't want my OH saddling herself with a bag of nails that's going to cost as much to put right as it did to buy! Overall condition seems to fit with the age & mileage, she has made an offer, will see what happens.
If you get it and want a sat nav, my old one is in the shed somewhere. You're welcome to it! It works, I just hated it.

Very kind, I'll keep that in mind. OH has come home tonight saying she also likes X Trails, I then mentioned Santa Fe too thinking she'd say no, I was wrong so we now have 3 options to make life even harder!
Yeah over about 60 the auto is very reluctant to kick down or slip the torque converter - I assume for economy reasons! The fairly high gear means you can steadily press the accelerator further and further down on the motorway and..... not a lot happens.
I've found a rapid depression of the loud pedal (don't have to move it far, just quickly) wakes the gearbox up, it kicks down, V-tech yo, and off you go.
I do occasionally have "if I won the lottery" type fantasies where I stick a supercharged S2000 engine in my ratty old clunker, sleeper style... That would wake it up a bit!

Dad had one, petrol auto.
I found it a bit sluggish on motorways (coming from an MX-5)
He sold it with close to 140,000 miles on clock, still on original battery, started first time, if circumstances been different, I'd have bought it.

Well it passed the MoT so the deed is done & it's parked on our drive! Advisories limited to drop link bushes & headlights need polishing up, I have an AG kit in the garage for that.
OH is very happy with it, I drove it about 18mls mixed driving earlier & apart from some tyre noise & overly light steering it's not bad to drive.
