Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. After trying out the setup at Goodwood yesterday, I'd like to get similar for at home.

I've had a look round but most are similar to the playseat. What I'd like is a strong frame, full setup, with the ability to mount a decent size screen at the end. Does such a thing exist in the non-commercial market?

This is a good one, not cheap but once you get going you'll feel the benefit...add £80 for the monitor stand...but tbh if you're serious about getting into it,
then VR is the way to go assuming you are on PC...there is also a Pro rig (which is what I've got) for slightly more. I'd recommend an ebay / gumtree search first as there is always someone who has lost interest moving kit on.

Was it the Vesaro rig on the Bentley stand you tried at Goodwood?

Motion rigs start at around £2000-ish

I'll be playing with PS4. Unless that's a daft idea? Can't be bothered with a PC.

It was similar to (but I think better than) this: http://www.playseatstore.co.uk/playseatr-sensation...

It was in the Martini drivers area, and was badged as a Gran Turismo set?

Would this be a good one to start with? Doesn't have the monitor frame, though.

I use a playseat challenge. It's V comfy and can be folded up and stored away easily if needed.

This. It's spot on to fold out in front of the TV if you're on PS4, you can always spend more later if you get hooked. Save money on the seat and get a better wheel. PS4 racing is very popular, check out NxtGen on Facebook, lots of racing, time trials and help if you sign up.

That's the one I have but it's probably a bit of overkill for PS4 if you're using your tv. Not easy to move around. Go with the playseat challenge then upgrade later.

I'd rather go overkill now, because flimsy/wobbly would just annoy me - I'd want as solid as possible. I looked around and it seems the G29 is the most often recommended wheel. Would that be right?

I currently use a Logitech G920 with shifter on an GT Omega wheel stand with a normal office chair. Used to have the Play Seat Challenge.

The GT Omega stand is excellent. The playseat was great and the ideal solution for a rig that can store away in seconds but lack of good shift mounting didn't suit me. The G920 is rubbish on the Xbox One but seems to give a better feel on PC, the shifter is bad on both. As I race PC I am going to get the Thrustmaster Shifter.

Fitting a shifter mount is very very easy. I use a t300rs, t3pa-pro and a th8a on both ps4 and pc. Any questions feel free on me.

The answer is simply how much do you want to spend?

The G29 with adequate shifter and ok 3set pedals is about £180 from currys/pcworld, but the T300 thrustmaster wheel is much better and more expensive, the stock 2set pedals are crap too so if flimsy winds you up you'd want to upgrade. I've heard of people having problems with t300 but not so much the g29. I've got the big daddy t500, with th8a shifter and upgraded pedals but I play on pc which gives much better options for upgrade but is a faff at times.

Be warned once you get hooked on this stuff you can spend a fortune...ask my wife lol... smile

I have a g25 and wheel stand pro for my ps3.

Am going to get thrustmaster t300rs with the t3pa pedal set with a playseat challenge and a ps4 at some point this year. I would prefer the t500rs as it's higher spec but don't want to spend another hundred quid for a new wheel just to get the paddles that move with the wheel (honestly who thought it ease a good idea having them fixed to the base?)

The wsp is fine - no issues with the central pole - but the playseat looks like a really good foldable option esp for the money but it's not a rigid built up rig that the op was looking for. There are a fair few of those permanent rigs about tho.

I (ages ago) bought a TH8A shifter, T3PA pro Pedals and a T300 RS. Close to £500 worth of stuff. I have used the shifter twice, and the wheel and pedals maybe once a month. The reason for the lack of use is mainly that its such a faff to set it all up, so try and get a setup that works well in the space you have. The gear shifter is going on ebay next week.

This is a big factor, and it's also why the playseat challenge makes sense if you don't have a dedicated space (although you'll still have the faff). Before I moved house and got my man cave I ended up playing on a pad most of the time to avoid the hassle of setting up the wheel and pedals in the corner of the living room. I picked up a playseat office chair when they still offered them, which doubles as a nice looking office chair when not being used with the removable centre post for sim racing, so one less thing to put away.

I told you it was expensive, first you have to buy a house with a man cave...lol

This ISN'T the set-up you are looking for :-)

T300 with IKEA Poang chair and a few off cuts of wood / Velcro.

It is surprisingly comfy / solid once you are strapped in....and takes 2 mins to setup :-)

I run an Obutto for RF2 etc.
Its very sturdy and I have 100s if not 1000s of hours seat time in the thing. Its the older gen 1 version that I have and I think it was about £500.
They have a newer design out now and its a bit more expensive but a better design. (read cup holders!!!)
Does take up quite a bit of space though. Can hold upto 3 screens.

Another playseat challenge user. Great piece of kit for the money, comfortable and flexible. Also as I mostly race in VR (Vive) I don't need a screen mount.

Mine has a T300 wheel and I use Fanatec Clubsport V3 for pedals. I don't have a standalone shifter.
I play on PC mostly, which give way more flexibility on kit, the wheels and pedals above are on separate USB connections. If I go Playstation I have to switch back to the crappy T300 pedals.
