Headphones for Gym?
Discussion
Bit of a newbie to the gym (done lots of running before but outside).
Looking for a decent pair of headphones that are comfortable and robust enough for gym usage but a bit bewildered by the choice.
Are in ear ones the best option? It's what I've always used before without issue other than some not quite being snug enough for running and working loose, but I think most come with a range of different sized buds.
Seen lots of Bluetooth ones, are they a bit of a gimmick or do they actually work well? I'd be using with an iPhone either in my pocket or in a belt strap or something.
Happy to spend up to £50 ish.
Thanks

I have Monster iSport in ear headphones, and use them for running. A little expensive but perfect and never come loose.
I use those too - can't fault them at all. I sweat like nobodies business when exercising sadly even though I am now fairly fit and healthy, so I need a headphone that doesn't move around or fall out of my sweaty ears
Those fit the bill nicely

Never used on-ear phones. Do they not move about and stuff when you're active?
They don't as it goes. I bought some B&W P5's as sound quality is important to me. I can't use the in ear ones as even if I stand still, they just fall out. The over ears are more comfortable and I used to go running with mine and perfectly fine for gym use apart from the wires getting in the way from time to time. The new wireless ones would solve that. The B&W are out of budget but I wouldn't rule over ears out. You may look a bit of a plonka with the bigger headphones on while everyone else is using those awful sounding in ear iPhone things but if you've not bothered by such things, they're worth a look.I've got a pair of B&O A8s which are secure and light but the cable is a nause once you've gone wireless.
I also have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum Wireless - wireless is a huge plus and they are comfortable but you do notice the weight. The noise cancelling is great in the gym.
I'm going to be buying some wireless replacements for the A8s to get the best of both worlds.

An alternative option may be something like these Portable MP3 player/headphones.
Mrs C&C uses these for music at the gym and reports that they are very good - decent sound and don't fall out. Also as they fit round your head and don't have wires, you can't catch the wire.
Downside is that you need to load your music on them (4 or 8Gb capacity).
Upside is they are waterproof, so can even be used for swimming.

My GF bought me some of these: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio-and-headphones/...
for xmas, i use them exclusively for the gym, battery last ages, i wanted Bluetooth for the wireless aspect of it & over the ear as the noise cancelling just means i can crack on with a gym work-out.
I work as a DJ on weekends so i'm used to using expensive high end headphones with good sound quality.
For a gym work-out these are really really good for the price.
The only downsides to over ear is your ears get hot.

Thanks all. Sprang for the Monster iSport in the end, in disgusting vivid blue.
I figured it might encourage me to try and move even faster so people can't see my hideous headphones
Or it might have been because I'm cheap.
The reason that I bought the green ones is that they were cheaper than the equivalent black 'uns I figured it might encourage me to try and move even faster so people can't see my hideous headphones

you're not training hard enough if you are using headphones.
Stop talking pish Farmer Giles.OP, I've got a pair of Jam Transit's for the gym.
Cost me £22 last year, sound is decent enough, bluetooth works great, can skip, pause and adjust volume without taking your phone out your pocket, and they're cheap as chips, so you're not getting your good set all sweaty!

While you're thinking about the music, changing tracks and adjusting the volume, you're not training. If you need music to take your mind off it, find a sport you like doing.
Behave! My mate is an International Rugby player and when he goes jogging, if he don't hit certain goals, as a punishment he will have to do the last section(s) without music, that's his motivation
Why would you not want to make your work out as pleasant as possible? Personally, If I got to the gym and I had left my headphones at home, I wouldn't even bother going in

I have Jaybird X3s and they're really good at staying in your ear, even without the wings (I thought they looked a bit daft).
The sound from them isnt particularly bass heavy, and by that I mean it doesnt boom and fart, there's a nice range of sound and they're well insulated. Range on them is around 20-30 feet, maybe more. I use them on flights, and was able to go to the toilet with my phone in my seat without them dropping out. Time before recharge is around 5 and a bit hours
The only thing I dont like about them is a custom charge adapter rather than just a small USB port.

If you won't go to the gym without music, you clearly don't enjoy going.
