As described in the title, I have a Giant Defy which has an FSA headset that includes a 15mm conical headset spacer. This is integrated into the headset as it has a recess in the bottom of it to allow clearance for the rubber seal/washer that sits on top.

The question is... can I just remove this and use a conventional spacer on top of the rubber seal or do I need to use this (or another) one? The headtube on the Defy is roughly 15 feet tall, so don't really need the extra 15mm if at all possible.

Has anyone else worked around this problem?
