Hey guys n gals. Posting in here because It might get some attention (not sure where else to put it!)

Im heading to Spa in a few weeks and wondered if anyone had any advice? I sorted tickets out pre xmas and we have an apartment 10 mins from the circuit.

what is there in the way of English commentary? im guessing I will be using data on my phone a lot rather than over the tannoy? don't think RLM are there?

where is the best place to park at the circuit? do you have to pre book or just turn up? how much does it cost etc?

Any other bits of advice other than pack clothes for all weather!!!???

Thanks in advance

Adam

This will be my third Spa 24hrs and I always look forward to attending.

On the Friday we park in the main car park which allows you to then enter the circuit opposite the old pits. Turn left and you can walk in the direction of Eau Rouge. From memory it was less than 10 euro's for the day.

On race day(s) we park on the road and walk into the circuit via the Blanchimont gate. It's free on the road and although it gets popular, it's a long road, so if it gets busy you will just need to walk further!

It's a nice event and quite low key by comparison to Le Mans, but the access to all parts of the circuit and the cars is great and it's a brilliant opportunity to see a decent level of GT racing at one of the best circuits in the world.

I hope you enjoy.

Important advice is to definitely get a banker in with the chips and mayo early doors, as they ran out of Mayo on the Sunday a few years ago!!!

thanks for that! is there any reason you don't park in the main car park on race days? is it too busy or cost too much etc?

my dad and other half will probably want to go back to the apartment mid race, is it an issue trying to get back into the car parks again or not?

No it's not down to cost although 2 years it was hammering down on the Saturday so we decided to park in the main area rather than walk in from the Blanchimont gate and just about got the last space, although they just tend to divert you further back towards alternative car parks once they reach capacity.

No we just like to have a walk in from the other end and use our folding chairs and have a few stops at various points on the circuit before settling down in one of the grandstands.

There are so many good access points that it seems a shame just to spend all the time in the main grandstands, but that's just us and other people probably would rather stay closer to the main paddock complex.

Just about no English commentary on the PA, and no English FM radio either, Radio Le Mans have covered the race in the past though so you may be able to listen via your phone.

And remember its cashless, so get your tokens from a booth before you get your chips and mayo.

Ohhh that's something I didn't know, where are the booths located? How does the system work?

Thanks for that. Hoping there will be some commentary via internet...or at least live timing to keep up with things

We've always used radio LeMans online player. Previously then sent through a small FM transmitter for the rest of the group...so I heard...wasn't me. But with the changes to data charges I suspect we'll all just stream to our own phones.

Thanks for that, hoping it will all work out ok. If not I'm good at following races anyway...more worried about the parents and boyfriend lol!

Yes tokens, sold near the bar or food stand, Be aware not all of them take cards! Cash machine in the town often runs out, Not sure if there is one hidden at the circuit!

1/2 a token is worth a bag of crisps if I remember right, so you need a lot for a beer. The Raidilon bar doesn't use tokens and is cheaper. Unlike Le Mans they haven't in the past stopped you taking in beer.

I will be working again this year so no beer for me expect after work.

I assume the cashless thing must have started last year?

I didn't know that and we managed to get beers and chips a few times using cash when we last went in 2016.

Yes, was in operation for the 24 last year and the WEC this year, it's just a way of getting more money off the punters by making you pay in 15€ chunks, so take your own food and drink in (they're not keen on glass) or visit the East Belgian Racing Team hut at Radillion which still takes cash, no frites though, just 'sausage with bread'.

Thanks for that.

I meant to say that is wasn't cashless when we went in 2015 not 2016.

I think we can stretch to 15 euros, which doesn't get you much in Europe these days!!

N.B.: at this year's 6h WEC, left over tokens can be returned to one of the booths for a cash refund, so it's not "lost" if you bought too many, like I did wink

Carefully bought tokens based on what I needed. Two more beers after the race was perfect!
