We are currently away in France and have noticed the drivers side door mirror beginning to flap about and on closer inspection this seems very loose.
I have some tools but not a comprehensive set so not sure if it's wise to tackle this or wait until home in a couple of weeks. Firstly if I do how does the door trim come off and what tools are needed and then I assume that tightening the mirror mounts is straight forward after this.
Thanks

When mine went I took it into Leven to do. I believe they took it off the car, tightened it up, then mounted it back on the car. Apparently lots of sharp fibreglass inside the door!

Ok sounds as if it could be painful unless done by an expert

You don't need an expert, but I wouldn't necessarily advise tackling it while you're away with limited tools, if nothing else you'll waste half a day of your time in France... which is time you'll never get back.

If you're worried about losing the mirror you might consider taping it as a temporary repair, definitely something to look at when you get home, you might then also consider this excellent bit of kit from Griffo400 (Brian).

Sadly what you're suffering is a common problem but it is fixable, good luck with it I hope the links help?

This is not a holiday repair so just strap it up with some gaffer tape and enjoy the rest of your holiday.
Fixing the mirror will be a pain and quite time consuming.

It is likely that either the alloy casting or the "mushroom" has snapped. Usually the casting. You can inspect what has broken by releasing the mirror glass - sliding tag under the centre of the glass.
As said above, a fiddly time consuming job, and you may well need a drill and nuts and bolts, or spare parts, to complete it. Leave it until back at home.
You do NOT need to remove the door card for any of it. Just the speaker if wanting to remove the mirror from the car. Not to unbolt it, but to release the wiring. It unbolts by turning the whole unit anti-clockwise. It's a bolt threaded into a captive nut in the door. But release the wiring from the plugs first. Note which wires connect to which first.

I switched to Corrado mirrors recently, after a couple of years of annoyingly floppy Citroen mirrors. Removed the driver's door card to do the job, as the new mirrors required a nut and bolt through the door to fix it in place.........and then found that I didn't need to! You can easily reach the nut via the speaker hole by hand and with socket set extensions.
