ZF Plate type LSD
Discussion
I don't know what you mean by 'gone' or whether the LSD would actually have been slipping during those two laps, but it seems to me that there are plenty of ways to drive a few miles on a low/flat tyre without trashing the LSD. Ultimately, if it still drives the same afterwards then I suppose that is all that matters.
If the LSD broke at any point I guess I'd have just lost drive altogether, the car was fine next time out with a new tyre on it- but I'm not sure whether I should be sending the diff off as a precaution. I think I'm going to replace the A-frame as that would've seen quite a bit of extra load
I guess it comes down to how much of the time you were applying enough torque to make the diff slip, and how much torque it would have been taking at that point. These things are forced to slip a little every time you take a corner, quite often while under acceleration, so I don't suppose they're too vulnerable to damage.

Well well, 'Pic of the Week' and 'Retort of the Week' both in one short thread, well done that man
I'm more shocked any marshalls actually allowed someone to continue on track like that given all the H&S are pushed onto us in motorsport whether justified or not.
To allow a car to continue a race with a tyre in that state when other people are racing, does seem a bit crazy

The tyre deflated suddenly coming into the complex at the end of lap 11. I thought that I might see the last lap board if I completed the lap and I reckoned that one lap on the flat might be doable. In any case I had competitors queueing up to pass me on the left coming out of the hairpin so I'm not sure I could've got over to the pit entry without practically stopping on the circuit. Moments later the driver who I had been battling with for the lead and who is currently ahead of me in the championship slowed down even more than I had and I found myself passing him on the straight on my flat tyre. Noting the lack of black flag or 'last lap' board I decided that even if I came last I'd at least score some points and with my championship competitor apparently in trouble... also, sometimes the marshals forget to show the last lap board.
I was surprised as anybody that I wasn't black flagged, I can only guess that my offside tyre wasn't visible to the stewards or commentators in the pits and the marshals weren't too quick to radio it in.
I was proven right- one lap was ok on the deflated tyre and I lapped only four seconds off the pace, losing positions hand over fist, naturally. The car had enough traction and stability to get along the straights and cornered surprisingly fine in right handers which form the bulk, Croft being a clockwise circuit. Then I got the last lap board (still no black flag or meatball?).
The tyre shed it's tread entirely into the Jim Clark Esses and can be seen rolling neatly towards the marshal's post on the corner exit. I was slowed to a crawl in the remaining left handers. I was more than 20 seconds off the pace. I checked my mirrors as I knew there was still at least one other competitor behind me- but who should hove into view but my troubled championship competitor who apparently hadn't retired either. It dawned on me that we were probably on the same lap therefore competing for position so for the final few corners our battle resumed, albeit now over 7th and 8th place instead of 1st and 2nd. The race culminated in a very close drag to the line- he stuck in 4th gear with no clutch and me on three tyres. Most farcical finish to any race I've been in. I did keep the place from him though, by all of three tenths of a second- and by finishing 7th I scored 24 points rather than the 2 points I'd have scored had I DNF'd.
