Have received first NIP today (bas*tards). I actually drive a company car so it's not addressed to me.

However, I'm somewhat puzzled, as it either doesn't say what the limit was, or what speed I was doing.

There is precisely one speed mentioned on the form anywhere.

What it actually says is

FOR THE ALLEGED OFFENCE OF EXCESS SPEED - TEMPORARY LIMIT - 70mph (CAMERA DETECTED).

then gives the location as A11, KETTERINGHAM, towards Norwich

I am puzzled. Was I doing 70mph in a temporary limit ?

But there hasn't been a temporary limit at Ketteringham, and it's a 70mph limit normally.

Or what ?

The 70 limit was brought in by:

The 70mph,60mph and 50mph (TEMPORARY Speed Limits) Order, 1977 and continued in force by Stat Instrument 1978/1548

So they quote the law as it is.

Perhaps it's a very old form () - the 70 mph National Speed Limit was introduced as a temporary measure in December 1965 (by Tom Fraser).

Beaten by DVD, but I quoted older history . However, wasn't the 70 NSL confirmed as permanent in 1967 (thus tarring Barbara Castle with responsibility)?

On the overbridge perhaps?

On first inspection, the alleged offence locus looks pretty vague. However, after looking at the map, it seems you may have to seek alternative options should you wish to contest it.

That's the place all right. They justify it using the nasty right turn junction about a mile on (which is just off the map).

I'm not quite sure how I can contest an unspecified allegation !

The only have to tell you what limit/law you've broken, not the detail, until you refute it and then they produce the details.
