Hi All,
My windows both sides rattled terribly when I shut the doors. Embarrassing.
I've searched the forums and played around with the driver's side and actually made the fitting worse as it does not seem to align properly horizontally. I have also inserted new felt groove liners in the window rails - now the window doesn't rattle but is really slow and stops about 5 cm from the top with door closed! Using the window button makes no difference as it will not go up any further but before removal it was fine vertically.
BUT having had a closer look at both rails with the windows in - my rails certainly look like they are too far out as there is no way each side of the window would sit in each rail at the same time - if I adjust the window horizontally to either side it pops out of the other! The rails are not adjustable as fixed with 3 non adjustable screws! So if the window is not completely inside each felt groove how is it so slow going back up?
Now I'm just confused along with having a slow badly fitted window on the driver's side!

The way I did / do mine is have the window in the felt channels with the two lower holding brackets holding the window, but loose enough to move the window around.

Then I put the window all the way up with the dash buttons, and then manually push the window snug into position, and then tighten up the Allen Key bolts with the other hand

It's a bit of a phaff but works fine

Maybe post a few pictures up if you still have your door card off as I recently changed my runners and the window is pretty fast and quite tight (that said windows on these cars are a notorious challenge!)

BTW to test the speed of the window motor, test it without the glass just to see if it's the motor that is sluggish or friction on the window / runners could be causing the problem - I have a spare motor if you need one as I replaced one of mine with a Tuscan one when I took it apart to clean it, and couldn't figure out how to get it back together again (since fixed!)

Thanks for the quick reply Judder.

I marked the window so that it would go back in 'roughly' the same place but I think my issue with it stopping 5 cm early is that I shut the door without it in by mistake (not thinking as usual)! Is there a way of adjusting the travel height?

The window goes really slow on the way up and twice as fast on the way down.

So am I right in saying you sit inside, close the door with the card off, use the switch to wind the window all the way up and then adjust from there? I can see the logic in that! I will give it a go.

Yes that's how it worked best for me (*but I did make it up as I went along!)

As the window is held in by the left and right bottom retainer bracket bolts and rubber padding enough to get past the micro switch sensor, the window goes up then stops when the door is shut

I then used a bit of pushing and shimmying force under the glass with the door card off to get the glass to fit snugly into the door seal and then tightened up each side when I was happy

Not perfect, but seeing as that's the position the window will be when the door is shut tight, seems the best position to get the glass how you want it (and limited air / water seals one hopes)

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info:
I just did that and so much better. I wiggled the window down into the grooves more and fits better. Still slow on the way up but fits much better all around when the door is shut and window up. I'm hoping the felt gives way over time and it eases. I drive with the window down most of the time anyway as weather here in Perth much nicer.
Cheers.
