A few months back I sold a 997 turbo; great car but it didn't really excite me. Initially I was looking at Ferrari 458 and 430 spiders. I really like convertibles and cant get a 458 spider with my budget soI have been looking at 430 spiders but cant find exactly what I want and prices are higher than I think they should be. So ... Im look at alternatives; v12 vantage roasters (had a v8 version and loved it) and Gallardo spyder. Its a third car so is just for nice evenings and weekends. It doesn't need to be practical. It will be garaged. Outright speed and power is not important as they are all fast cars.
So what to go for?
Gallardos; what are peoples views of the non-LP and LP cars? I can get a non LP cab for 80k whereas LP cab is 100K+. Peoples views please?
What is a Gallardo reliability like? What are it's weaknesses?
Aston v12v roadster; is it considerably better than a v8 (less than half the cost of a v12)? What are it's weaknesses? Will it depreciate like a brick?
What are they both like compared to a 430 cab?. Anything else I should be considering? Really value peoples views who have actually owned them and lived with them.
Thanks all

Depends if you are motivated by the sound of the engine and involvement in the cockpit, or if you would rather have something that has the best performance but is like a playstation game to drive - safe but with minimal feedback and sense of occasion.
If you like the former, by older, and if you like the second option, by as new as you can,
From experience, I can tell you that the Gallardos offer the former, with pre-LP and LP trading sensory pleasure for refinement, where the difference is on a smaller scale compared to one of the newer breed.

Like you, I found the 997 turbo uninspiring. Ended up with a pre-LP spyder. Considered the 430 but for me it doesn't have the same looks, sound or specialness and I really wanted a Lambo. All very subjective though, others will say the opposite.
Can't compare them for reliability but the G is fine (so far). Get it properly serviced, budget for typically expensive consumables (I've done brakes & tyres) and be prepared for an e-gear clutch change if it hasn't already had one. Its a great car to drive, the sound especially with the roof off makes you grin every time.

might be worth posting in the Aston forum as well, as in here it's going to favour the Lambo.
If you loved the V8V, the V12V is a different level. No reliability issues at all. My coupe is on 35K and not had a major issue, clutch should last 50k. If you buy one of the original manual roadster, I don't think they'll depreciate much if at all from where they are. The V12VS might still go down some more, but not massively.
Order books are all closed. I've got a speed manual roadster coming in a few months, last of an era etc etc. Will lose money of course, but don't think it'll be like a brick, even for a new one.

Im not keen on the r8 with either engine im afraid. The looks dont do much for me (too much like a big TT). It doesn't excite me like the options im contemplating.
+1For some reason they also seem to have a disproportionately high number of k**bheads driving them, more so than any other tipo I've noticed.
