Hi

My wife has an idea for an App to help her generate more business and I wondered if anyone has any experience of the costs involved. It will be a quite simple app that asks a few questions, plays a video and directs you to her website.

She already has her web site up and running so it is just getting the app (both Apple & Android compatible) I just wanted to get an idea of the costs involved if anyone can advise.

THanks for looking

Don't take this the wrong way, but...I think an app for something like that is a complete waste of time & money...I'd never download an app knowing it's only function was to ultimately direct me to a website...

I'd be looking to spend that money on a direct marketing campaign that included these questions/video in an e-mail or possibly You Tube advertising, much more likely to help grow the business IMO.

Agreed; an app needs to do something or offer some actual benefit/advantage. A crap app would more likely put me off that business (in fact that has happened in the recent past!).

You don't need an app.

Mobile friendly (i.e. responsive) website - use a different domain if you really want to. For bonus points make sure the result of the questionnaire is easily shared on social media.

Like others have said - apps get repeat use - this wouldn't if its only purpose was to direct you to a website.

Very quickly I wanted to add to this, I understand what you are all saying about the app to be developed is kind of pointless, but I wanted to know how much it would cost to develop and app as well and just wanted everyone to give some advise on the costs.

Sorry to thread jack

How long's a piece of string? You could spend £600k+ on 10 contractors for 6 months or you could pay a freelancer a few quid to knock something together for you (and you might still not have what you want in the end).

This type of app in terms of the functionality you describe can be achieved using some of the solutions to push what is effectively a website into the specs you need for app store submission and make it effectively a native app. Which is assume is essential if it's used as a marketing thing.

Hard to give you an idea of price without knowing how much design, other integrations etc but very basic with some nice design is possible at around the 10k mark using this type of method.

Problem is as other people have mentioned if the App doesn't solve a problem in itself it'll be very hard to either get it on the app stores and to get anyone to download it.

Hope that's useful?
