new avos but still a very rough ride
Discussion
A few weeks ago the old girl was handed over to those nice people at Austec for amongst other things a new set of Avos all round - dampers and springs. The ride height has certainly increased as I can now open the bonnet but it still gives a very rough ride - white lines feel more like railway lines - and it still jumps around a bit. Now I have never driven another S3 so I'm not sure how it should feel, but I was expecting a bigger noticeable difference with the new set-up. When I took it in, Paul said that the only suspension I had at the front was that supplied by Pirelli ! Can anyone who has had this upgrade help me please.
By the way, delighted with all the rest of the work done - the engine is really sweet now.

It all depends on how you want your car set up. The car can most certainly be set up for a more comfortable ride, easing off the dampers silghtly, softer springs etc. Did you specify that you wanted a particularly soft ride when you went to Austec?
The S's are quite hard generally, espceially compared to the Griffith and Chimeras. I have Griff 500/Chim Suspension fitted to my Griff and it is much softer than the S.

bridgdav, I've just fitted (tonight) AVO PG718 adjustables on the front of the S with E10325 325lb rate springs. The cost direct from AVO was £236.18 delivered, Shocks were £75 each + VAT and the springs were £21 each + VAT, carriage £9.00. However they ommitted to tell me that they don't supply a C spanner and you have to fit the springs.
I am just looking into replacing all four corners with PG718's, 350lbs front & 325lbs rear, direct from AVO including VAT & delivery for £465.42
spoken to a few people & even with the stiffer springs i have been told the same thing, turn them to a softer setting & the ride should be smoother.

In that case then the Gaz shocks are a few coppers cheaper then, if you buy the springs as well and they are fitted to the shocks
AVO £96 a corner Gaz £95.41 but including free C spanner, we did get the best deal.!! Whoop de doo

If you don't have a C spanner, on of these will work just fine fully opened:
