2017 VW Touareg R Line Plus
Discussion
After a succession of BMW 3 series tourings I had reached a point where more room for all the family's chattels was required, however, I did not want to resort to an MPV. As the new 5 series estate hadn't been launched at the time of ordering I thought I would try an SUV for a couple of years to see what all the fuss is about. As the current Touareg is entering last year of its production run there are some good deals on it - I don't need a seven seater so it seemed like a decent option.
I've had the car a couple of months now and (somewhat to my surprise) I'm really enjoying it. I find myself driving in a much more relaxed and wafting way (probably because it doesn't do corners) and the kids love the panoramic sunroof / their high up seating position. Fuel consumption is low 30's which doesn't seem bad given the size and weight plus parking is fine given the surround view cameras.
Size wise I would say it's between an X3 and an x5 BMW and so far it seems to be spared the hate that big 4x4s attract; I still get let out of side junctions.....
The only negative I would say is the media / sat nav system which is okay but is at least a generation behind the latest Audi / Merc / BMW.

We did the same, with ours delivered in Jan. Had an e91, then f31 tourings but wife wanted something more upright. The VW was a much nicer and cheaper place than an X3, it's impossible to loose on their runout lease deals (less than 14k over 3yrs, 10k p.a) - unless I could negotiate 40% off tkt price upfront.
Seems to go well in sport mode, but occasionally caught off guard. The Nav is a ballache compared to the business nav in the F31, but the central displays works well. I see you went with optional 20s, mine is on the standard 21s but ride is fine (couldn't be harder than F31 M Sport plus).
Kids wrecked yours yet?

Agree re the gearbox, BMW have definitely got the upper hand on calibrating their 8sp box. The vw one can be occasionally be wrong footed but in the main it's pretty good. I had professional nav in my f31and it was a lot more intuitive than the VW one.
I went for the 20inch wheels for ride comfort and cost in case of replacement. Rides okay and looking forward to trying some 19 inch ones I've bought for winter wheel duty.
Kids haven't wrecked it yet as it's Dad's new car and I've trained them well ha ha

I have just bought one of these as our Octavia Vrs Estate just wasn't big enough for our needs, and after looking at every option, these were the one we kept coming back to.
Had it on the road a week now, 1,200 miles done and loving it. Doesn't seem to drop below 28mph with 35mph easily achieved at a steady cruise.
