the reliability of late 981 Boxters

contemplating buying one and dont want to confuse myself by reading 57 pages of conflicting views on one the read and 32 on another when inevitably most will personal opinions about different models and ages of cars.

So:
1/ do the last 6 pots suffer from bore scoring and IMS
2/ how reliable is the PDK box and what is clutch life like?
3/ Bit to my surprise there are reports of electrical problems with Porsche cars.
4/ Any other significant reliability issues?

1: No
2: No inherent problems reported as far as I'm aware.
3: Little niggles as with most cars, I'm not aware of anything major?
4: Nope, they seem well sorted. There are lots of 981s out there but no horror stories that I've heard.

1: no
2: life of the car
3: not seen any major issue anywhere
4: no, but the standard P zero suck and will have cracked and gone hard.

buy one if you like eps, it's a great car bar that.

7th gear is only there for fuel economy. If you floor it then it will only use 1-6; the sport gears.

I would have thought the 981 Boxster/Cayman is a very well developed product and should offer excellent reliability.

Apparently, 'electrical' items are the most common issues with any modern cars, as there are so many electrically dependent systems, features and accessories these days. The basic mechanicals should be ultra-reliable and the normally aspirated flat-six engines from the 981/991s are real gems.

However, it's always worth maintaining the extended warranty for absolute peace of mind.

depends if you are a glass half empty or full sort of guy.

we are all saying there are no issue but then people want a warranty, warranties add up if you own a lot of cars, and far better to have a slush fund and be able to pick and choose what battery and tyres you can fit imo.

Actually the only issue I've heard of with the 981 is the brake pedal getting stuck. Few threads on here about it.
Apparently rectified by a new brake pedal bush, believe it affects the Boxsters more when you have hood down and footwell heaters on full blast

With PDK being around since 2009 I have never heard of either of the two clutches being replaced or needing attention - we have had various gearbox issues over the years (as to be expected) but generally very reliable.

Yep this is one I had - another niggle is the fan heater getting jammed and needs a bit of manual persuasion to get it going again.

Other than that they are pretty solid in terms of mechanical reliability.
