My installation of IE is well and truly ed (locks up when attempting to launch a link in a new window - see earlier thread). I suspect it's some kind of botched hijack attempt but none of the anti-spyware I've tried helps.

Before I throw the towel in completely and wipe the drive and do a clean install, I want to try to just re-install IE. But when I download the IE6 SP1 setup from MS is just says there's a later version already installed and won't go any further or offer to uninstall.

So, how do I get rid of IE6 and start again?

Already using it. But as a web developer, I feel it is sometimes necessary to check whether things work on the browser with the biggest market share...

Plus, so many other things hook that into IE's HTML engine are screwed too.

There is a way to force a clean install from the run command. Email microsoft or try something like "run setup -f" and see what happens. It may then list all the parameters etc.

Search for removing IE on Google Groups.

Its an ugly task which will annoy you lots but it can be done.

Its not at all easy, but its definately possible.

Probably just as much hassle as a clean install of XP

Last ditch attempt at salvaging the PC was to install SP2. Still not fixed the problem.

Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow...
