well have been slogging like a dog but have the chasis & out riggers cleaned derusted and painted all looking nice in silver including suspension arms wish bones etc etc.
I now want to turn my thoughts to some mechanical improvements. The car is a 4L as far as i know standard....

what do you reckon, I want things to do myself that dont require being a mechanic. Whats a good buy in terms of improvemtns to performance not just speed but handling etc etc.

General consensus seems to be do handling and brakes first, then performance.

I'm getting Nitrons (and sports exhaust, obviously) to improve the handling (in fact RG say they're already fitted ). Next will be brake uprating. Then I'll dabble in some ACT goodies for performance...

so what about a brake upgrade, is there a kit that can do the job, is it straight forward enough. Can you use donor parts from other cars, if you can what are they. Can you upgrade the disc aswell to have a drilled one, p[erhaps some larger callipers aswell.

whats best and any one got ideas on prices

When the search function is working again you will find all of the answers quite extensively.. but specifically: Yes, Yes, Yes, Ford XR4 and others, Yes and Yes.

On my (ever increasing shopping list) is:

ACT Induction Kit (fitted last week, very impressed)
ACT Carbon Fibre Throttle Trumpets
ACT Manifolds/Just ripping the precats out the existing ones
AVOs
Brake Upgrade
Bosch Injectors
Bosch Mass meter
Tornado Chip and MA tuning session
Protection under the Bankruptcy Act

This little lot may take me a while (except the last one)...

How much is that lot?

Errr... I *think* it comes out somewhere near £4k, which is quite a lot of money...

It is a bit of a fantasy list anyway, and I'll probably settle at trumpets, AVOs, brakes, precats out and chip/MA session.

But maybe I won't

How much oomph would that give?

No idea mate. TBH, I wouldn't really be doing it for the whole numbers thing (although I would, of course, be interested). I've read of a number people who have had the work done and highly recommend it. Someone described it as turning a ragbag of muscle into a finely honed piece of kit*.

How much more would it be to get a wilder cam involved? (if you are going for the T-chip and MA tune, you may aswell change the cam too?)

Stop it, my list is already too long, expensive and silly

*Relatively speaking

couldn't agree more, as if I could have said it myself, which I think I did - anyway, get it done, worth every month's credit card payment, at least you can run away from it quicker...

anyway, wot of avos, comparable to nitrons?

- invites responses...

Ah... I did wonder if it was your eloquent self that said that, but couldn't find the thread...

So, following your test drive antics is a change on the cards?

Apart from the brakes which have already been done and the AVO's, I've been meaning to get all that lot above fitted to my Griff. Except every time I think I'm getting near having the cash to pay for it, something else comes along that eats it all up. Bunch of arse it is. I'd be hoping for a power increase of up to 30bhp with that lot, but that may be a little optimistic.

The one thing I'm not sure about is whether to have the ACT Stainless manifolds done and if I do whether to have the totally decatted ones. Decisions decisions...

Had these done so far. The brake upgrade was Tower View's 285mm upgrade, keeping the same calipers, just mounted differently with enlarged drilled, grooved disks, new pads, braided hoses and improved fluid. Absolutely fantastic and worth every penny.

The AVOs, ACT induction kit and MA work was done a couple of weeks ago. See here

On my shopping list too. However, Mark Adams, in his inifinite wisdom, recommended the Webber injectors for anything below a 5.0 as the Bosch ones were too good. He also mentioned improving the heads as they are pretty much standard (at least they are on a 4.5) as the next step. This would help the breathing as the power in mine tails of pretty steeply after 5.2k

At the end of the day its only money...

Mines booked in for the following:-

1. Custom brembo brake upgrade (big red things and massive discs)

2. AVO dampers and springs all round.

Once everything is done with regards to ride and handling then i may think about power upgrades depending on what the tvr specialists recommend.

favourite upgrade thus far is the sports exhaust ... love the popping on the over-run.

Sounds good mate. What's the damage for that little lot?

Presumably DB's doing that for you?

Not sure as to final price.

DB is doing all the work. Although the custom brembos were designed and commissioned by ST (Surrey RO).

The brakes have soopa big red calipers... that's about all i know i'm afraid.

Should you wish to have this custom chimaera brembo upgrade i can ask ST and DB for likely all inclusive costs.

N
