I hate making recommendations that help inflate prices but I'd go for an S2000 personally.
You'd be lucky to find an S2K for anywhere near £5k, they are pushing £10k these days.I would say go for an Evo 1 GSR, They can be had for £5/6k, and can't see that value falling.

Won't get one for 5k. You also probably won't get back what you paid for a mint EP3 after a few years, and I think that good EP3's are a little over priced at the moment to be honest, compared to FN2s. Not that they're a bad buy.
Don't get me wrong, the prices of ep3s do baffle me abit. I understand that due to their age the lower milers will command abit more. But some are nigh on 7k for what I look at as a 12 year old Honda Civic.
Other option is to get a leggy 3-4k one and minimise risk of it depreciating.
Im open minded but want something a little umph as the mrs has a car for daily duties.
Had 3 182s and loved them all but punted my last one on as I really couldn't put up with the interior and build quality anymore. Plus at the age and miles most of them are on a gearbox refurb is more than likely needed

Probably not exactly what you're looking for but 350Zs dont seem to have dropped much below £5K for sensible miles UK spec cars for years now.
Heres a nice low miles UK car for just a bit over budget

Clio 197 F1
Getting rare, havent dropped much recently if at all.
They come with the Recaros and Cup suspension from memory. Watch synchro in third gear though and make sure its had the timing belt done.
This one has Xenons too though i cant recall if they were standard fit on F1s or an option.

Clio 182 Cup?
£3K ish would buy you a decent one, £4K probably a mint, lower miles one with history.
182 Trophy prices have went through the roof and that tends to pull up the value of the next best model at some point too.
Trophies were 5k a year ago, have they really gone up? genuine question (being too lazy to search)£3K ish would buy you a decent one, £4K probably a mint, lower miles one with history.

at 5k they were the best choice. A solid 1x2 still a great call. few will be standard, but many have been modded too far for good valuation.
OK i searched.
Trophy at 6k for high miler, 17k from a dealer, 7-8k for a solid private example.
good Cups are over 5k now too. If i had the space....

Lower miles cars seem to be around £10K, lowest miles cars are (asking) north of £15K.
Happy to stand corrected but thats what i've been seeing anyways.

This seems to be the starting price now for reasonable miles examples

hate to see cars garaged, but a low miler could sit in the garage get used once a fortnight for a 40 mile thrash, that's just 1000 per year.
it would be a great personal benchmark when test driving new cars. A bit like Gordon Murray sending every new designer he recruits for a drive in his Rocket.

I think the "£5K for a Trophy" ship has long since sailed, either way

I'd be looking for a good sensible miles 182 Cup with the right spec or a 197 F1.
Since the start of last year, I've had a track prepared 172, a 197 and currently a 200 Cup, so of course i'm not in any way biased.....
