I'd like to connect my TV to my receiver so I can watch Netflix with surround etc. I have an older amp (Yamaha 3063), so I dont think it has HDMI arc. Would an optical cable or phono cables be better?

I use optical for that job (coax digital would be fine too if the tv has it), my thinking is the receiver should have much better D/A conversion and audio processing etc than a TV so let it do the job its made for instead of making the TV do it.

Cheers Ben, that works great. Just need to work out how to make the TV sound turn off when it goes through the receiver now lol.

And get on the hunt for an upgrade.
