Hi I've owned my mk1 for over 6 years and at the time was a big jump going from my punto gt to the rs but even after these 6 years and 40k miles it still puts a smile on my face when I drive. It's been a really reliable car surprisingly as it was my daily for 3 years and as the rs models especially at the age the car is, are supposedly prone to breaking but other than a couple of common issues and the one unfortunate issue it's been great, it was faultless when I took it out on track at March's Sunday service and great fun seeing as it was my first time out on track. It's not a standard car but not heavily modified either with nothing other than the usual turbo back exhaust system and induction kit performance wise but a few more obvious visual mods.

From the outside yes... the interior on the other hand is still one of the most garish and naff colour combos that I've seen this side of the 1970's.

I just couldn't live with them black and blue leather seats, they might be Sparco but they just look like some cheap and nasty ''racing bucket seats'' that you can get on ebay for £40.

Great car, really like the MK1 RS. Them fantastic OZ wheels need to be silver again so they can be appreciated.

I admit the interior let's these cars down and the seats are just standard focus seats not actually sparco seats and the top of the seats are headrests with fancy covers but with the way the car drives and looks on the outside I can look past the interior and at the moment mine has an omp bucket seat on the drivers side and hopefully next year I will put one in the passenger side.

A picture of a standard seat without its cover on.

Ask yourself, would you have a blue and black leather sofa in your living room?

Thank you though the pictures make it look better than it is unfortunately as the dreaded rust has starting to shows itself on the rear arches but this is being sorted at the end of the month.

This is the worst of the rust so not massive but enough for me to want catch it before it gets worse.

Definitely worth taking the hit now rather than leaving it to get worse.

I was admiring one in my work car park a few months ago until I realised you could put 3 fingers through the front wings, dread to think how much they cost.

My mate has one, he's spent s small fortune on the engine, 375bhp now and it goes fantastically, but the front wings aren't actually connected to the car due to rusting through! hehe

Lovely cars though. Had fun looking at the one at the Ford heritage collection a few months back.

14,000 miles at the last MOT!

The last time I heard of a new front wing being bought about a year ago they were about £650 each but some parts are nla so command a high price. A lot of these are now needing bodywork like new sills or the bottom of the wings replacing.

I saw the one from the Ford heritage at the 10 year anniversary meet that was put on in 2012. When I had mine on the dyno it made 228bhp that was before the induction kit was fitted but that won't have added much if any more though I do have a tubular manifold on the way so it's not the most powerful one out there but it's still good fun so the 375bhp must be really fast in one of these.

Phenomenal cars!

I still remember mine fondly despite everything that has been and gone since.

They were selling for such a premium when new it took me 18 months to finally get one back in 2005.

It certainly surprised the owner of a Boxster down the M6 when an innocent blue Focus couldn't be out dragged 😉.

One of those cars that i wish i'd bought about 5 years ago when great examples where reasonably priced.

Such a great looking car, even after all these years.

Great drivers cars. I must say it's the only car that I have sold and truly miss.

It was a buyers market then so I probably paid over the odds for mine as the prices dropped further afterwards but if I was buying one now with 48k on the clock and it was immaculate when I bought it I would probably looking at another £5-6k on top of the £9k I paid so looking at it like that it wasn't a bad buy, if I was to sell I would most likely get my money back not that I have any intention of selling.

Great cars these. Bought one late in 2005 with 1800mls on the clock, right out of the box it was. Sold it mid 2008 with 11,000mls rec for £11k.
Would love to find one like that again for the moneybanghead.

Looks a nice car Op, enjoy smile...

Having owned most fast fords I would say that the MK1 FRS is the best compromise for looks, power and reliability

My old cosworths are old hat and the RST's are so unreliable these day's. A few choice mods and a sabre map will give 330 plus and they're a handful which makes for a great drive.
