Hi, really like the look of this old Omega.
Is it good value?

Steel and gold plated quartz date sea master with leather strap.

I think if you like it and will wear it, it is a good buy.

Your not going to retire on it, or lose your shirt on it.

If you like it... Yup.

I would think that the condition of the gold plating would be thing that could kill the value on a watch like that.

Not keen on the fact that it's a quartz. Would expect an automatic for that kind of price but happy to be corrected.

£300 for an old quartz watch is madness, but no more so than the cost of new luxury watches. Even at this age it all depends on how much value you put in the brand. Having said that, my wife wears an 80's Omega quartz that's still going well but cost <£100.

It isn't worth half of the asking price, in my experience.

I have a late 70s Omega DeVille auto in gold that I only paid £130 for on eBay - runs perfect and keeps great time too

Similarly, I picked up a Rado Voyager day/date late 70s auto for only £32 also on ebay so I'd say this is quite pricey

Unless I'm missing something and it's an especially rare or sought-after model (which I very, very much doubt), then it's a bit overpriced, especially given it's a mainly steel & partly gold-plated quartz model.

I bought a 9ct solid gold, mechanical, 1970's Omega a while back, in great original condition, freshly serviced & with a warranty from a commercial seller, and that was £395, so that gives you some idea of how overpriced that quartz is. If you look on eBay I have no doubt you'll find much cheaper again, but at a risk.

Check out this website for a huge selection of old Omegas: https://www.poshtime.com/vintagewatches.php?sort=p...

Those aren't much cheaper, but at least they offer comeback if you buy a dog or frankenwatch.

It's a quirk that 'common or garden' vintage Omegas are just not worth all that very much, but represent terrific value compared to modern new watch prices.

That's an 80's model.
Gold and steel isn't fashionable at the moment.
That style of watch isn't fashionable at the moment.
Quartz watches don't command a high second hand price.

All of that said, it appears to be all original and in good shape. On ebay you'd expect something like that to go for anywhere between £150 and £250. The seller's £300 is a bit strong. If you like it haggle.
