What a wasteful society we live in!
Discussion
I recently decided to hang my TV on the wall which left me woth a superfluous A/V stand that was still in very good condition so I assumed I could get a couple of quid for it.
Here it is:

I understand it wont be to everyones taste but for £30 including local delivery I thought it would get snapped up on Gumtree. Not a single bite! Not even an offer.
Fair enough. I took it to a local charity shop instead thinking they would be grateful for it, this is a very sturdy thing, it could hold Any TV and associated equipment.
To my amazement, they looked it over and spotted a little scuff mark where the original TV had sat, and told me they didnt want it as no one would by something with a 'scratch' on it..from a charity shop!!
I ended up taking it to the tip and asked the guy there if he wanted to put it aside as it seemed too good to chuck out. "No mate, chuck it in the household waste skip"
Cool story, eh?..

Most things go on gumtree at the right price. 30 quid is too much. A tenner and you'd have shifted it.
Of course it's not 'worth' doing for a tenner but my view is I just want someone to keep using the stuff so it doesn't end up in landfill. So if I have to practically give it away, so be it. Better than having to take it to the tip.
I have good reports of Freecycle from others but it depends on where you are I think. The group local to me is not very good for some reason.

Just put it on a local Facebook for sale group with a nominal price eg £10. Someone will barter you down to £2.50 thinking they got a good deal.33q said:
If you had thrown that into household at my tip the guys would have shouted....skip 10... metals mate....and then jumped in a recovered it.
He may not have actually specified which skip, but it wasnt garden waste and household waste was the one i was parked next too and that thing weighed a tonne..Inkyfingers said:
I use freecycle for this kind of stuff. It means giving it away for free, but stuff is usually gone within a couple of days.
The interesting thing i've noticed, is that most of the users are decidedly "middle class". It seems that the poorest people prefer to buy new from Argos...
This. I can't believe the crap people will take away for free. Random old bricks and paving slabs haul them to the tip or have several people within minutes wanting them. That's my take on not as well. I'd rather give it away than tip it.Of course it's not 'worth' doing for a tenner but my view is I just want someone to keep using the stuff so it doesn't end up in landfill. So if I have to practically give it away, so be it. Better than having to take it to the tip.

Freestyle is fine, but expect a lot of people to ask if you'll deliver!
